Management is Trash
Former Tenant
Pros:
Rent is super cheap ($1750 for a 2/1), space is relatively large for Manhattan/Spanish Harlem, conveniently located above the 6 train, grocery/laundry/Central Park are very close
Cons:
Building manager (Mr. Singh) NEVER responds to maintenance requests and when he finally does he’s extremely cheap and rude about the repairs. We had a radiator pipe in one room openly spray water on the walls, release putrid smells and constantly make noise during the winter. He claimed we were lying and the pipe doesn’t do that even though the walls were clearly stained with radiator pipe water. He continued replacing with old, faulty caps until we reported the building to 311 and an NYC city inspector came and gave them violations for that pipe AND roaches that were the result of water because sprayed through all radiator valves. He’s the worst building manager I have ever come into contact with and the only way to get anything done is to leave a paper trail of emails to the building owners. And even then they were also rude and demeaning without really fixing anything with false claims of “trying to fix our requests” when that was really Mr. Singh knocking on our door at noon when my roommate and I both work during the day. Overall trash place with the exception of the super who’s extremely helpful but can only operate under what Mr. Singh can provide, which is below the bare minimum. As far as noise is concerned, the back room is much quieter than the front one. The from room overlooks the street and there is music, people, and traffic at all hours of the night. A window unit a/c will block out most of this noise but during the winter it is sometimes difficult to sleep.
Advice to owner:
Fire Mr. Singh and get someone to actually run your building effectively
