Reviews

Pests and water issues
Former Tenant
Pros:
Rent is on the cheaper (c) openigloo side
Cons:
Lots of roaches and mice. (c) openigloo The water comes out brown (c) openigloo often, and the water pressure (c) openigloo is non-existent. The showers are (c) openigloo either boiling hot or freezing (c) openigloo cold, there's no in between (c) openigloo and the temp fluctuates every (c) openigloo few seconds.
It’s fine, not special
Former Tenant
Pros:
It’s fine, nothing special, a (c) openigloo regular walkup building.
Cons:
Mice, bad water pressure, very (c) openigloo iffy hot water.
Home for years but honestly not a great building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Love the area, love the (c) openigloo neighbors, loved my home after (c) openigloo putting a TON of work (c) openigloo into fixing it up while (c) openigloo living there.
Cons:
Honestly the building management was (c) openigloo insanely unresponsive. First moved in (c) openigloo and the radiator exploded, then (c) openigloo I had a mice infestation (c) openigloo it took them 2 MONTHS (c) openigloo to fully assess after threatening (c) openigloo to withhold rent. Then I've (c) openigloo had a steady flow of (c) openigloo roaches for the remaining 3 (c) openigloo years. It's part of living (c) openigloo in the city to an (c) openigloo extent, but this building is (c) openigloo just not great. Whenever something (c) openigloo has needed repairs in-unit OR (c) openigloo in-building oveer the years, they (c) openigloo have always chosen a cheaper (c) openigloo & worse option to replace (c) openigloo it. Once they tried replacing (c) openigloo my bedroom ceiling fan with (c) openigloo a bathroom vanity light. Great (c) openigloo location, you get what you (c) openigloo pay for, but beware!
Advice to owner:
Better door lock so packages don't get stolen, please invest in pest control
DONT LIVE HERE
Former Tenant
Pros:
I wish I could name (c) openigloo one nice thing. The roof (c) openigloo door was unlocked, but the (c) openigloo building's "rapist" lived up there. (c) openigloo Do yourself a favor and (c) openigloo look up the history of (c) openigloo this building. Steven Mcphail will (c) openigloo show up. He has a (c) openigloo criminal record and is dangerous. (c) openigloo He loiters on the property (c) openigloo and scares the girls who (c) openigloo live here.
Cons:
The rapist, the noise levels, (c) openigloo constant construction, rude management, awful (c) openigloo units, no sunlight, front door (c) openigloo broken THEY WONT FIX IT!!! (c) openigloo They won't fix anything! Not (c) openigloo even the rapist! The front (c) openigloo door literally leads to the (c) openigloo street, so anyone can come (c) openigloo in whenever. Party on!
Advice to owner:
Fix things!
Not Great Experience
Former Tenant
Pros:
location good lighting in bedrooms
Cons:
cockroaches everywhere — no response (c) openigloo from super or landlord packages (c) openigloo stolen or broken into
You can find better for cheaper
Former Tenant
Pros:
-Fast hot water and good (c) openigloo water pressure. -Online rent payment (c) openigloo and maintenance requests. -A nice (c) openigloo view of an open street, (c) openigloo no facing a wall or (c) openigloo another unit 10' away. -Units are (c) openigloo given a fresh coat of (c) openigloo paint before new tenant move-in. -Free (c) openigloo gas and water.
Cons:
-Roaches: Persistent roach problem throughout (c) openigloo the building. They send an (c) openigloo exterminator around every month but (c) openigloo it doesn't seem to be (c) openigloo enough. Some units are built (c) openigloo with absolutely no closets. -Leaks: (c) openigloo There seems to be a (c) openigloo very high number of leaks (c) openigloo in this building - I've (c) openigloo had my ceiling spring a (c) openigloo leak 2x in less than (c) openigloo 2 years. Overall it feels (c) openigloo like the place is just (c) openigloo patched up until the next (c) openigloo problem hits. -Heat: Floor radiators (c) openigloo aren't very warm and the (c) openigloo window insulation is terrible. You'll (c) openigloo have to plastic insulate your (c) openigloo windows if you want to (c) openigloo survive - and even then (c) openigloo you'll need a space heater. (c) openigloo -Steep rent increases. They get (c) openigloo all they can. **They require a (c) openigloo guarantor no matter what your (c) openigloo income!
Advice to owner:
Genuine investments are needed to make these units worth the rent charged. -Plumbing -Bug bomb this place or something. -Window insulation -We really need a video intercom system. Packages get stolen.
location is the only perk
Former Tenant
Pros:
every room is street facing, (c) openigloo high ceilings
Cons:
bugs everywhere, super is often (c) openigloo unreachable, no overhead lighting in (c) openigloo bedroom, layout is strange and (c) openigloo the flex walls are subpar, (c) openigloo no peep holes, front door (c) openigloo is often broken. overall, no (c) openigloo longer worth the price
Get what you pay for
Former Tenant
Pros:
Cheap, and that’s pretty much (c) openigloo it
Cons:
Thin walls, small apartments, weird (c) openigloo layout and features (extremely tiny (c) openigloo sinks, shower in middle of (c) openigloo bathroom) unavailable management, little security (c) openigloo (lots of packages stolen and (c) openigloo classic “we lost the security (c) openigloo footage” response from mgmt) glass (c) openigloo front door with the same (c) openigloo code for everyone. We’re weird (c) openigloo about me getting my security (c) openigloo deposit back (Didnt make it (c) openigloo available until 2 weeks after (c) openigloo move out, did not offer (c) openigloo direct deposit, said they would (c) openigloo only mail if I accepted (c) openigloo liability for it being lost (c) openigloo or stolen, and had to (c) openigloo pick it up in person (c) openigloo even though I’d moved from (c) openigloo ny so I had to (c) openigloo send a friend - horrible)
Simply, don't rent here
Former Tenant
Pros:
This is for apartment 6: (c) openigloo As far as good things (c) openigloo to say about this building (c) openigloo go, there are very few (c) openigloo if any. I think the (c) openigloo only pro is the location. (c) openigloo It is right in the (c) openigloo middle of the action in (c) openigloo LES. Close to good restaurants, (c) openigloo trader joes/target, and a subway (c) openigloo to get you anywhere. But (c) openigloo the actual living in the (c) openigloo building part is bad to (c) openigloo the bone.
Cons:
This is for apartment 6: (c) openigloo - There is basically 15 (c) openigloo square feet of common living (c) openigloo space. It's a small galley (c) openigloo kitchen big enough for a (c) openigloo small table against the wall (c) openigloo and two stools. And with (c) openigloo the table in the kitchen, (c) openigloo you couldn't fit two people (c) openigloo shoulder-to-shoulder. If this were the (c) openigloo only thing wrong with the (c) openigloo apartment, fine. But it's not. - (c) openigloo There are so many cockroaches. (c) openigloo You would probably see anywhere (c) openigloo from 3-8 a day-not exaggerating! (c) openigloo In the bathroom, stove, cabinets, (c) openigloo counters, and they made their (c) openigloo way into the bedroom closest (c) openigloo to the kitchen. Management was (c) openigloo made aware of this and (c) openigloo the response was minimal, if (c) openigloo any. - The bathroom is (c) openigloo so strangely organized and it's (c) openigloo not even the worst part (c) openigloo of the apartment (see above (c) openigloo for that). The sink is (c) openigloo so small. It's an open, (c) openigloo all-tiled room. The shower head (c) openigloo comes before the toilet, so (c) openigloo you have to walk through (c) openigloo the "shower" to get to (c) openigloo the toilet. When you shower, (c) openigloo everything in the bathroom gets (c) openigloo wet. - There's no natural (c) openigloo light in the common spaces (c) openigloo or in one of the (c) openigloo bedrooms. The only natural light (c) openigloo comes from the bedroom at (c) openigloo the end of the hall. (c) openigloo When that door isn't open, (c) openigloo the apartment is pitch black (c) openigloo as if it's the dead (c) openigloo of night at any time (c) openigloo of day. - Management is (c) openigloo terrible. They do not care (c) openigloo about you. They just want (c) openigloo to lock you into a (c) openigloo lease and take your money. (c) openigloo And will not do anything (c) openigloo to make your experience better. (c) openigloo - It is expensive. They (c) openigloo are charging 3k for a (c) openigloo 2 bedroom in these conditions.
Advice to owner:
Be honest about how terrible it is to live in your building and do not charge so much for rent.
You’re either going to make it work or you’ll hate it
Former Tenant
Pros:
I like the noise control, (c) openigloo the walls are pretty thick. (c) openigloo All utilities are included (c) openigloo so you’re just paying rent (c) openigloo and internet. They supposedly (c) openigloo provide you with a lofted (c) openigloo bed frame and an air (c) openigloo conditioner but I brought my (c) openigloo own. The big selling (c) openigloo point is the neighborhood. (c) openigloo I love living here in (c) openigloo the east village and this (c) openigloo is the most affordable way (c) openigloo of doing so. If (c) openigloo you don’t own many belongings, (c) openigloo this will work great for (c) openigloo you.
Cons:
It is INCREDIBLY small. (c) openigloo Whatever your expectations are, lower (c) openigloo them. The cleanliness is (c) openigloo alright, I wish the bathrooms (c) openigloo were cleaned daily because they (c) openigloo are shared with the entire (c) openigloo floor. I will say (c) openigloo I have never not been (c) openigloo able to use the bathroom (c) openigloo because they were all occupied. (c) openigloo I always find an (c) openigloo empty one. I’ve seen (c) openigloo small bugs, I’ve even seen (c) openigloo a bird, but it’s never (c) openigloo gotten too bad with pests. (c) openigloo Do not count on the (c) openigloo provided air conditioner. They’re (c) openigloo all super old and do (c) openigloo not work. I bought (c) openigloo my own and it was (c) openigloo the best purchase I ever (c) openigloo made. Unfortunately it’s really (c) openigloo easy for strangers to get (c) openigloo into the building. There’s (c) openigloo a stealing problem and I’ve (c) openigloo seen people hanging out all (c) openigloo day and even sleeping in (c) openigloo the hallway. My biggest (c) openigloo complaint is that I live (c) openigloo on the second floor. (c) openigloo On the second floor, there (c) openigloo is a resident who, from (c) openigloo what I was told from (c) openigloo management, who has a bad (c) openigloo prostrate problem. It’s unfortunate (c) openigloo but they make the entire (c) openigloo floor smell of rancid urine. (c) openigloo I hate to hate (c) openigloo on someone who clearly has (c) openigloo a disability of sorts but (c) openigloo the smell is god awful. (c) openigloo It doesn’t usually get (c) openigloo into my room but sometimes (c) openigloo it does and it’s unbearable.
Advice to owner:
Do something to fix the smell on the second floor as soon as possible. It’s unbelievable that you have people living there full price with that smell. I want to have roof access. I know people abuse it but in the city, it’s invaluable, and would help with the fact that it’s a tiny apartment.
