Pros:
The location is good. I (c) openigloo loved living on the cusp (c) openigloo of LES/East Village and the (c) openigloo apartment was good for my (c) openigloo first place out of college (c) openigloo with a roommate. There were (c) openigloo some pros: a kitchen that (c) openigloo felt somewhat separate, bedrooms that (c) openigloo weren’t sharing a wall and (c) openigloo both had good windows, and (c) openigloo a well-lit living room.
Cons:
The heat stopped working in (c) openigloo the apartment at the beginning (c) openigloo of winter and never worked (c) openigloo again. That was only the (c) openigloo beginning of what seemed like (c) openigloo a long string of unfortunate (c) openigloo events including an oven that (c) openigloo apparently had a gas leak (c) openigloo and had to be replaced, (c) openigloo our gas being completely broken (c) openigloo for a while (no kitchen (c) openigloo appliances worked for several months), (c) openigloo electricity issues, and plumbing issues (c) openigloo which were never resolved promptly. (c) openigloo Management was responsive but didn’t (c) openigloo really solve any problems. They (c) openigloo brought us things like an (c) openigloo electric stovetop (the kind you (c) openigloo bring camping) and portable heaters, (c) openigloo which were very much appreciated, (c) openigloo but made our living conditions (c) openigloo feel very subpar. Granted, they (c) openigloo let us break our lease (c) openigloo early. I felt bad complaining (c) openigloo so often when it really (c) openigloo felt like they were working (c) openigloo to fix the issues, but (c) openigloo living without heat in NYC (c) openigloo winter is really unbearable. It’s (c) openigloo nice that the street is (c) openigloo a cul-de-sac, yet I would (c) openigloo still wake up daily to (c) openigloo obnoxious street noise – both (c) openigloo from people laying on their (c) openigloo horns at the corner of (c) openigloo Houston and from the auto (c) openigloo shop next door. It also (c) openigloo took around six months to (c) openigloo get our security deposit back.
Advice to owner:
I saw a previous reviewer comment on the trash situation – it definitely wasn’t ideal to have to walk out of the building, into another building, around the back to throw away our trash. Something that also seems relatively easy to fix would be the front door to the building. It would literally shake my room sometimes with how loud it is – I still hear the sound of that thing banging shut in my nightmares. Some sort of “gentle close” door mechanism would make a world of difference.
