Former Tenant
Pros:
Affordable, remodeled apartment
Cons:
Dirty stairwells and floors. (c) openigloo Doors need repainting. Washers and (c) openigloo dryer break often
Advice to owner:
Have someone professionally clean the common areas of the building and maintain. Replace all windows with upgraded casings and glass
Great tiny apartments on a partially gentrified building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Fast and great response management (c) openigloo Clean building Live in super Modern (c) openigloo renovated units No pests Strong water pressure Fast (c) openigloo and full security deposit return
Cons:
No elevator No laundry
Poor Management and Maintenance
Former Tenant
Pros:
Quiet area compared to other (c) openigloo areas in the neighborhood. Not (c) openigloo too far from the 6, (c) openigloo 2, and 5 trains. Stainless (c) openigloo steel appliances in the apartment (c) openigloo I am staying in, unsure (c) openigloo about other units.
Cons:
Unit was given to me (c) openigloo in poor conditions. I had (c) openigloo to clean the entire unit (c) openigloo myself. The landlord and super (c) openigloo promised repaint the apartment and (c) openigloo to fill in holes and (c) openigloo gaps on the floors and (c) openigloo walls which were allowing water-bugs (c) openigloo and pests to enter the (c) openigloo apartment. It took 5 months (c) openigloo for them to finally send (c) openigloo someone to make repairs. I (c) openigloo did not have hot water (c) openigloo for over 8 months until (c) openigloo I finally decided to report (c) openigloo the issue to 311. Once (c) openigloo reported, they finally fixed the (c) openigloo issue. It is now winter (c) openigloo and I’m still getting a (c) openigloo lot of water bugs and (c) openigloo pests. The landlord has been (c) openigloo very unresponsive. It is a (c) openigloo small unit so pests and (c) openigloo water bugs can make you (c) openigloo feel extremely uncomfortable and closed (c) openigloo in.
Advice to owner:
Value your tenants more especially if they are good tenants. Instead of making empty promises, follow through with them and take action.
Stay away if you can
Former Tenant
Pros:
Very quiet building and a (c) openigloo peaceful neighborhood.
Cons:
The building is very old (c) openigloo and has a lot of (c) openigloo issues. The main ones being (c) openigloo mice and bad heating. But (c) openigloo the worst problem is the (c) openigloo landlord and the super who (c) openigloo refuse to take responsibility for (c) openigloo many things. When I moved (c) openigloo in I was told by (c) openigloo the landlord I needed to (c) openigloo call a locksmith if I (c) openigloo wanted the lock changed. So (c) openigloo I had to spend $300 (c) openigloo to have the lock changed (c) openigloo because I didn’t want any (c) openigloo previous tenants to break in. (c) openigloo There were mice in the (c) openigloo winter and the super didn’t (c) openigloo believe me because he “patched (c) openigloo all the holes before moving (c) openigloo in.” So I had to (c) openigloo spend money on traps and (c) openigloo poison and I had to (c) openigloo get rid of them myself. (c) openigloo The neighbors below us smoked (c) openigloo a lot of cigarettes and (c) openigloo weed. I called the landlord (c) openigloo multiple times and he says (c) openigloo he asked them to stop (c) openigloo but they never did. He (c) openigloo also didn’t believe because “they’re (c) openigloo good people they don’t smoke (c) openigloo weed!” So I had to (c) openigloo move my bed to another (c) openigloo part of the house, the (c) openigloo least smelly part because the (c) openigloo whole house constantly smelled like (c) openigloo smoke and weed. Sometimes I (c) openigloo would wake up at night (c) openigloo coughing. I had to spend (c) openigloo a lot of money on (c) openigloo an air purifier. In the (c) openigloo winter the heating is mediocre. (c) openigloo I always had to have (c) openigloo a space heater near me, (c) openigloo which cost me a lot (c) openigloo of electricity. I am moving (c) openigloo after 1 year because I (c) openigloo cannot continue living like this. (c) openigloo Spending more rent on a (c) openigloo nicer apartment would save more (c) openigloo money in the long run (c) openigloo as well as less stress.
Advice to owner:
Stop being a cheap jerk and care more about the hard-working people who don’t have as much as you and who just want a decent place to live.
I would not recommend this Terrible Building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Renovated apt Building has monthly exterminator
Cons:
1. Heavy mice infestation 2. (c) openigloo Broken buzzer system 3. Hardwood floor (c) openigloo not maintained which causes a (c) openigloo regular loud noise when walking. 4. (c) openigloo No clear communication between landlord (c) openigloo and super to tenants 5. Little (c) openigloo to no response when requesting (c) openigloo repairs 6. Heat not consistent with (c) openigloo the local laws 7. Hallways and (c) openigloo stairs are in filth. Danger (c) openigloo of falling when there is (c) openigloo rain/snow. 8. Garbage area is (c) openigloo atrocious 9. Very large Puddle (c) openigloo always in front of the (c) openigloo building due to a clogged (c) openigloo drain that maintenance seems to (c) openigloo ignore.
Advice to owner:
My advice to the property owner is to put extreme care and effort into maintaining this old building. Safety comes 1st! That means making sure tenants can properly buzz guest in to prevent front doors from being broken or left open by other tenants. Instead of paying for monthly extermination, search and seal all holes in apts and building. Establish a clear and direct communication plan with tenants. Hire a super that actually answers and responds to phone calls. Super a ghost and I’ve never met him.
