Reviews

Classic large NYC building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Kept very clean, super and (c) openigloo staff were always on top (c) openigloo of lobby maintenance. Garbage rooms (c) openigloo were cleared out regularly. Big (c) openigloo apartments. Pretty quite if you're (c) openigloo near the back.
Cons:
Rare that all of the (c) openigloo washer/dryers are functional in the (c) openigloo laundry room. Big building so (c) openigloo might take a while to (c) openigloo get repairs, etc addressed.
Poorly maintained building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Huge apartments, tall ceilings, lots (c) openigloo of natural light. Maintenance is (c) openigloo very responsive. Location is good.
Cons:
Too much noise from the (c) openigloo street traffic, very poorly maintained, (c) openigloo poor waste management, sidewalk is (c) openigloo filthy, and there are mice (c) openigloo and roaches.
Advice to owner:
Do a better job with sanitation of the building
The building is going down hill fast
Former Tenant
Pros:
It is in a really (c) openigloo good location.
Cons:
There is never any heat, (c) openigloo people are constantly stealing packages (c) openigloo from the lobby. The super (c) openigloo is extremely rude and unpleasant, (c) openigloo it is not uncommon to (c) openigloo hear him cursing tenants out (c) openigloo and yelling at delivery people. (c) openigloo If something is broken don't (c) openigloo expect it to get fixed (c) openigloo son as the super is (c) openigloo always off site, or not (c) openigloo answering his phone.
Advice to owner:
Find a super who is able to keep up with the building.
Nice surrounding neighborhood
Former Tenant
Pros:
Beautiful and interesting surrounding neighborhood.
Cons:
Loud neighbors next door. Issues (c) openigloo with roaches.
Advice to owner:
Better pest control and building management needed
Mostly good with some issues
Former Tenant
Pros:
Brick pet friendly building with (c) openigloo rent stabilized apartments. Neighbors are (c) openigloo all nice. Elevator consistently works (c) openigloo and is fixed quickly when (c) openigloo there’s issues. Consistent heat and (c) openigloo hot water. The super is (c) openigloo responsive to calls when available.
Cons:
The renovated apartments were cheaply (c) openigloo done so there’s too many (c) openigloo tiny spaces where roaches can (c) openigloo live and can’t be sealed (c) openigloo off. There’s no control over (c) openigloo the heat in the apartments. (c) openigloo The trash area outside is (c) openigloo always a mess (although seems (c) openigloo to be pest free). The (c) openigloo super only works M-F 9-5. (c) openigloo Intermittent issues with stolen packages (c) openigloo despite a locked mail room (c) openigloo with a door that doesn’t (c) openigloo close unless you slam it.
Current Bed Bug Infestation
Former Tenant
Pros:
Lovely neighborhood, neighbors are nice (c) openigloo in the building, close to (c) openigloo prospect park and Q at (c) openigloo newkirk and Cortelyou.
Cons:
Lease stated that there was (c) openigloo no history of bed bugs (c) openigloo but tenant on top floor (c) openigloo has active decade long infestation (c) openigloo and management refuses to do (c) openigloo anything about it.
Good building for the price. Great neighborhood. Incredibly close to the train.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Neighbors are typically nice. Many (c) openigloo people have lived here for (c) openigloo a long time
Cons:
Trash outside isn't well kept. (c) openigloo Entry to building not well (c) openigloo kept. Mail stolen often
Advice to owner:
Cameras needed for package stealing
Paper thin walls and ceilings
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice community atmosphere
Cons:
You are at the mercy (c) openigloo of whoever lives above you (c) openigloo because of the lack of (c) openigloo any sound barrier.
Advice to owner:
When you “renovate” a unit, actually do that. Gut it and insulate and lay down materials so we can’t hear every tiny thing our neighbors say and do. Strip the 30 layers of ugly yellow paint off the lobby and paint it white. Have security there all the time instead of just random times. Do something about the loiterers in the front and the roaches in the laundry room.
Pretty good experience at 184
Former Tenant
Pros:
Live-in super is pretty responsive, (c) openigloo but due to the age (c) openigloo of the building you may (c) openigloo be calling him a lot. (c) openigloo Lots of families but noise (c) openigloo isn't really a problem. Generally (c) openigloo on top of garbage management. (c) openigloo Honestly fairly spacious apartments.
Cons:
Heating can be iffy occasionally. (c) openigloo Biggest issues that have arisen (c) openigloo have been from old pipes (c) openigloo leaking in the building.
Cheap, sweet, and much to be desired
Former Tenant
Pros:
Beautiful wooden floors, old style (c) openigloo architecture, sweet family-friendly neighbors
Cons:
rodent problem, negligent super and (c) openigloo landlord, windows do not have (c) openigloo locks by fire escape (nor (c) openigloo can I get the super (c) openigloo to install them after repeated (c) openigloo attempts), radiator leaks, the hot (c) openigloo water is unpredictable, sometimes extremely (c) openigloo hot and other times lukewarm (c) openigloo (showers go back and forth (c) openigloo between being lukewarm/hot), the street (c) openigloo and stairwell are unkempt. The (c) openigloo heat has sometimes not been (c) openigloo on when it should be (c) openigloo and it's been cold in (c) openigloo the house.
Advice to owner:
take better care of your tenants!
