Reviews

Terrible living experience
Former Tenant
Pros:
-location is good
Cons:
Our apartment had tiny bugs (c) openigloo on the ceilings constantly that (c) openigloo we could never get rid (c) openigloo of. Management changed halfway through (c) openigloo our lease and we never (c) openigloo were able to get our (c) openigloo security deposit back. The floors (c) openigloo had major wood issues and (c) openigloo the building is cracked in (c) openigloo half.
Advice to owner:
Fix your apartments
June Homes unit
Former Tenant
Pros:
- Quiet - Feels private - D (c) openigloo units get sunlight in bedroom
Cons:
- Cockroaches - Missing dishwasher (it (c) openigloo was advertised to have one) - (c) openigloo Missing LR closet and desk (c) openigloo isn’t full-sized as advertised - No (c) openigloo access to trash (could be (c) openigloo my own unit’s issue)
Advice to owner:
June Homes needs to be more thorough with inspection before move-ins
Why is it so bad?
Former Tenant
Pros:
The location is great
Cons:
Filthy, run down, entrance door (c) openigloo not secure, no intercom, elevator (c) openigloo broken for months, vermin, boiler (c) openigloo just broke down, no super, (c) openigloo lots of violations
Advice to owner:
Provide maintenance and repairs and super
Avoid at all costs. SLUM LORD
Former Tenant
Pros:
Convenient location, pre-war details
Cons:
The worst management in NYC. (c) openigloo They don't care about their (c) openigloo buildings or tenants. The building (c) openigloo went 6 weeks without heat (c) openigloo or hot water in the (c) openigloo middle of the winter (2022 (c) openigloo when it was frigid). Forced (c) openigloo to sleep with layers of (c) openigloo clothes on and told by (c) openigloo management to "buy an electric (c) openigloo heater". They didn't want to (c) openigloo replace a $50 part on (c) openigloo the boiler and let us (c) openigloo all suffer. There were/are multiple (c) openigloo lawsuits against the building. The (c) openigloo neighbors are kind-we were all (c) openigloo in the same sinking boat. (c) openigloo They have another building that (c) openigloo burned down and they wouldn't (c) openigloo help the tenants find new (c) openigloo housing. The front door wouldn't (c) openigloo lock, stair railings were lose, (c) openigloo garbage out front, soggy floor (c) openigloo in the kitchen. The pile (c) openigloo of tickets on the lobby (c) openigloo wall grew weekly.
Don not live here or in any "Highpoint Associates LLC" buildings
Former Tenant
Pros:
The heat works
Cons:
Do not live in any (c) openigloo buildings owned by Highpoint Associates (c) openigloo LLC or managed by Keystone (c) openigloo Management. They are operated by (c) openigloo a family of known slumlords (c) openigloo whose main motivation is to (c) openigloo make the buildings unlivable so (c) openigloo as to kick out the (c) openigloo rent-controlled tenants (see links below (c) openigloo for more on this). Landlord (c) openigloo is barely responsive and takes (c) openigloo weeks or more to address (c) openigloo simple issues. Front door on (c) openigloo this building routinely breaks, locking (c) openigloo tenants in the building with (c) openigloo no other exit route - (c) openigloo this is an obvious fire (c) openigloo hazard and also a major (c) openigloo inconvenience. The lock also frequently (c) openigloo breaks altogether and homeless people (c) openigloo immediately begin sleeping and shooting (c) openigloo up in the vestibule overnight. (c) openigloo Rodents and roaches are an (c) openigloo issue. The landlord was recently (c) openigloo (2023) rated the worst in (c) openigloo all of New York City, (c) openigloo the articles below will back (c) openigloo all of this up. https://therealdeal.com/2023/01/09/city-accuses-landlord-fred-ohebshalom-of-shoddy-maintenance/ https://hellgatenyc.com/life-under-nyc-bad-landlord https://www.brickunderground.com/rent/inside-story-building-unsafe-fixing-kicking-out-landlord-7A-administrator-nyc
Advice to owner:
Stop being a slumlord. Fulfill basic obligations to your tenants.
First rental apartment
Former Tenant
Pros:
Reasonable rent, great neighbors.
Cons:
Bad management, neglect pennants’ requests
Advice to owner:
Pay more attentions to your tenants.
Neglected Property. Absent Management
Former Tenant
Pros:
Good location, by many buses (c) openigloo and 10 min away from (c) openigloo trains. Supermarkets and restaurants nearby
Cons:
No heat, no hot water, (c) openigloo constant leaks and no super (c) openigloo on premises. Trash piles up (c) openigloo every week. Management is useless (c) openigloo and does not care. Too (c) openigloo many violations to count.
Advice to owner:
We are humans. We pay rent. We as tenants deserve livable conditions. Shame on you.
Tenants beware of Liberty Ventures/Keystone Management!
Former Tenant
Pros:
- Location - Neighbors - Proximity (c) openigloo to transit
Cons:
- Keystone Management/Liberty Ventures is (c) openigloo the worst I've ever seen. (c) openigloo Daniel Ohebshalom and Robin Ignico (c) openigloo are some of the most (c) openigloo neglectful managing agents ever. They (c) openigloo should have no control over (c) openigloo anyone's housing situation. - Management's services (c) openigloo are nonexistent despite the expensive (c) openigloo rent.
Advice to owner:
Give up your buildings!
Unit/location is good, landlords are horrible.
Former Tenant
Pros:
The actual unit I lived (c) openigloo in was nice. And (c) openigloo the location was great. (c) openigloo But I cannot under-emphasize that (c) openigloo the cons substantially outweighed the (c) openigloo pros.
Cons:
Highpoint Associates X/Mashcole Property Management/Keystone (c) openigloo Property Management, whatever the landlords (c) openigloo call themselves are absolute criminals. (c) openigloo In the wintertime the (c) openigloo heat would frequently go out (c) openigloo in this building and it (c) openigloo would often take as much (c) openigloo as a week, sometimes more, (c) openigloo to get it repaired. (c) openigloo Communication to the landlords (who (c) openigloo are based in California) about (c) openigloo this, if it was addressed (c) openigloo at all, was often met (c) openigloo with disrespect and gave the (c) openigloo impression that we were bothering (c) openigloo them with trivial issues. (c) openigloo The same was true of (c) openigloo the hot water, which frequently (c) openigloo went out and took at (c) openigloo minimum several days, once as (c) openigloo long as two weeks, to (c) openigloo repair. The same was (c) openigloo true of pest control - (c) openigloo without going into detail, after (c) openigloo numerous attempts to get the (c) openigloo landlord to send an exterminator, (c) openigloo and a landlord's broken promise (c) openigloo to do so, eventually we (c) openigloo gave up and stopped asking (c) openigloo when the landlord stopped responding (c) openigloo to our emails on the (c) openigloo subject and just went AWOL (c) openigloo for several weeks. After (c) openigloo moving out of the building, (c) openigloo chiefly due to our horrible (c) openigloo experience with this landlord, the (c) openigloo landlord did everything they could (c) openigloo to avoid returning our security (c) openigloo deposit, delaying for months and (c) openigloo making arbitrary deductions when they (c) openigloo did finally return the deposit, (c) openigloo presumably on the too-often correct (c) openigloo assumption that the tenants don't (c) openigloo have the time or resources (c) openigloo to take them to court (c) openigloo (the same is true for (c) openigloo all other issues with the (c) openigloo building - I'm confident that (c) openigloo this landlord believes that if (c) openigloo they do nothing for long (c) openigloo enough, tenants will simply stop (c) openigloo asking them to fulfill their (c) openigloo obligations in the lease and (c) openigloo will try to find a (c) openigloo way to handle it themselves). The (c) openigloo upshot: the landlord corporation (whatever (c) openigloo they call themselves) does everything (c) openigloo they can to exploit their (c) openigloo tenants while simultaneously doing as (c) openigloo little as possible to actually (c) openigloo make the building livable, including (c) openigloo in areas related to fundamental (c) openigloo tenants' rights (e.g. heat and (c) openigloo hot water). This is not an (c) openigloo extensive account of the cons (c) openigloo of this building - an (c) openigloo extensive account would take too (c) openigloo long. Additionally, I'm omitting (c) openigloo some significant problems that are (c) openigloo specific to me because I'm (c) openigloo worried about retaliation of some (c) openigloo form or another. But (c) openigloo I should mention two other (c) openigloo things to be aware of, (c) openigloo briefly stated: the elevator was (c) openigloo frequently broken and often took (c) openigloo a very long time to (c) openigloo repair, and the buzzer didn't (c) openigloo work for the entire time (c) openigloo we lived there. The (c) openigloo latter issue was repeatedly raised (c) openigloo to the landlord and to (c) openigloo my knowledge no effort was (c) openigloo ever made to fix it.
Advice to owner:
Treat your tenants with respect. I understand that you have financial motivations to do what you do, and I'd imagine that your behavior is frequently profitable, but what you're doing is actually hurting real people and you should be deeply ashamed of yourselves.
Notorious Slumlord Daniel Ohebshalom
Former Tenant
Pros:
I like our tenant association (c) openigloo as we are fighting back (c) openigloo against the landlord's and management's (c) openigloo neglect of the building and (c) openigloo tenants.
Cons:
Hiding behind a litany of (c) openigloo LLCs like Keystone Management, Highpoint (c) openigloo Associates, Liberty Ventures, and Belmont (c) openigloo Ventures, tenants believe the purported (c) openigloo landlord and his property manager (c) openigloo Robin Ignico have engaged in (c) openigloo intentional neglect and harassment, including (c) openigloo towards residents who speak up (c) openigloo about the obscene and dangerous (c) openigloo conditions in their homes. Common (c) openigloo sights at the 14th Street (c) openigloo building (and others in the (c) openigloo landlord’s portfolio) include: trash piled (c) openigloo high, a broken-down elevator and (c) openigloo intercom system, smashed mailboxes and (c) openigloo stolen mail, graffiti across the (c) openigloo walls, human feces, drug paraphernalia, (c) openigloo ceiling collapses, broken doors to (c) openigloo empty units, and more. Adding (c) openigloo to the crumbling building infrastructure, (c) openigloo unmaintained entryways have also created (c) openigloo the difficult situation of unwanted (c) openigloo intruders regularly breaching doors and (c) openigloo windows to use common areas (c) openigloo and abandoned apartments, often engaging (c) openigloo in unaccountable and dangerous behavior (c) openigloo like vandalism, littering, and theft (c) openigloo of personal belongings. Tenants have (c) openigloo been forced to creep through (c) openigloo their own building with caution, (c) openigloo unsure of who or what (c) openigloo might be around the corner. (c) openigloo Tenants’ best efforts to have (c) openigloo this issue resolved by management, (c) openigloo elected representatives, and even the (c) openigloo local precinct have not been (c) openigloo fundamentally successful—the latter advised tenants (c) openigloo to simply navigate the hallways (c) openigloo with mace in one hand, (c) openigloo and a phone recording video (c) openigloo in the other. Tenants maintain (c) openigloo that the inherent problem in (c) openigloo their building is not people (c) openigloo looking for shelter during cold (c) openigloo winter nights in New York, (c) openigloo but rather management’s carelessly unmaintained (c) openigloo security infrastructure that causes these (c) openigloo unsafe conditions. Seeing this problem (c) openigloo replicated across their landlord’s other (c) openigloo buildings, tenants feel that the (c) openigloo lack of a real response (c) openigloo from their management company has (c) openigloo even served as a silent (c) openigloo endorsement of the danger and (c) openigloo vandalism contributing to the deterioration (c) openigloo of their home.
Advice to owner:
Stop being such a horrible person.
