Loved location but old building
Former Tenant
Pros:
-love East village location
-amenities were p decent in unit and in building
-they did make some improvements like adding delivery room and fobs for access
Cons:
-garbage management is just putting trash in a room on the floor that would often overflow
-elevator is old and sometimes not reliable
-neighbors had pest issues
-loud area and sometimes neighbors too

Sold the building and kicked everyone out
Former Tenant
Pros:
Tons of space, huge 2 bedroom units.
Thick walls; very quiet in-between units.
Elevator
Amazing location
Cons:
The family that owned the building for over 80 years sold it to a private equity company that gut-renovated all of the units and kicked out all of the existing tenants. Paid >$9k in a broker fee just to be told 2 months later that our lease wouldn't be renewed and we'd have to move.
People who hang out at the bodega sit right on entrance step into the building. I've had to step over or around drunks guys, or one time someone actively shooting up.
Advice to owner:
You screwed over all the tenants 🖕

Greedy and no improvements
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice location, garden, laundry in building, elevator, super.
Cons:
Lacking a bike storage (and the empty basement is perfect for that), intercom doesn't work at all, walls are covered of tags, garden is a mess with broken furniture, mice all year long, washing machines outdated and not enough for the 3 buildings.
Advice to owner:
If you want a good excuse for the rent increases, maybe at least change for a new intercom, remove the disguting tags, bring more washing machines and create a bike storage.

great location, big apartments, old building, terrible upkeep
Former Tenant
Pros:
communal backyard, big units, unique architecture, location
Cons:
cockroach and mouse infestation to the point that I can't even use the dishwasher (10+ mice in a year, 2-3 cockroaches a week, Hysen is very unresponsive, elevator only functional 25% of the time (has broken and trapped people on it multiple times). rats/roaches in basement where laundry is, dead rats/rats in the "communal garden", trash (including drug needles) all around the building/flower beds outside, units paint cracking, floor pealing, black mold in bathroom, rent checks delivered with no option for online pay, NO BUZZER to let people in (need to go downstairs to let anyone in), downstairs (garden/laundry) not accessible without elevator, laundry machines break regularly and only take quarters, trash shoot unrealistically small (have to hand put trash in piece by piece down shoot), refrigerator breaking and hasn't been fixed
Advice to owner:
invest in units to: update them/seal holes to mitigate pest issues, re-dobathrooms to alleviate mold issues

invest in elevator to stop it from breaking so regularly

hire exterminator more regularly, fumigate the building

ensure promptness and responsiveness of super

LOUD and lively
Former Tenant
Pros:
Convenient location
Near the action if you like that sort of thing
Super is responsive enough
Big units, big kitchen
Cons:
4th and A is a LOUD corner
The units facing key foods are LOUD, constantly (garbage trucks, delivery trucks at 6 AM)
There are can/glass collecting machines outside the south facing windows that are noisy
Mice and cockroaches, the building’s pest control person is ineffective
The basement where you do your laundry is dark and dingy
This is a very old building and if you have upstairs neighbors, you can hear everything through the ceiling
The bathtubs are old and hard to clean, impossible to take a bath
Advice to owner:
Hire a better exterminator

Ok for east village
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nicely sized apartments with dishwashers
Cons:
Bugs, mice, noise levels (thin floors) and the street
Over 3 years ago
DONT LIVE HERE
Former Tenant
Pros:
my neighbors were nice
Cons:
this building has rats
Advice to owner:
Fumigate your building like every other walk up in this neighborhood does. Your blatant negligence is showing in the form of the ongoing infestation within my apartment.
