Review Summary for 214 East 82 Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews highlight a decent value for pre-war walk-up units at 214 East 82 Street. Positive aspects include responsive supers, quiet neighbors, and some well-managed units. However, concerns over thin walls, pests like roaches and mice, and unhelpful management staff have been raised. Maintenance issues, lack of cleanliness in common areas, and inadequate garbage facilities add to the drawbacks. While some recommend the building for its location and improvements, others caution against issues like pest control and unresponsive management. Overall, the building offers mixed experiences with room for improvements in various areas.

Pretty standard apartments, management
Former Tenant
Pros:
It's a pretty standard pre-war walk-up building. It's a decent value for the city. Kitchens are recently updated, and the laundry room, though only accessible by going outside, is only two years old. Live-in super that is friendly and generally available.
Cons:
Walls are definitely thin, so I could hear my neighbors all the time. I never had any rodent issues thankfully, but found a couple bugs here and there. My main complaint involves Ashley at Sassouni. She is a complete nightmare to deal with. I had little to no interaction with the management company during my time in the building, but upon move-out she tried to keep a few hundred dollars that was rightfully mine. Luckily it was resolved once another team member got involved and legal action was threatened.
Advice to owner:
Replace Ashley

Pretty good, tbh
Former Tenant
Pros:
After going through a couple, the newest super, Ardi is fantastic. Neighbors are quiet and respectful. Heat and water are fine. Management is very responsive to maintenance issues.
Cons:
Trash containers are simply not enough to handle the volume in the building.

Beware of mice
Former Tenant
Pros:
Good location, great super George ( but now they changed to someone else). Relatively quiet if you are rear buildings.
Cons:
Mice running around the building, rude owners and management, packages getting stolen all the time. Rent increase by 30% and probably not worth staying given the condition of the building.
Advice to owner:
Fix the mice problems, seal every apartments walls, be nice to tenants and no need to be aggressive.

We didn’t know any better (first apartment in NYC)
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location, nice block and nearby amenities (laundry, groceries); good size bedrooms. Online portal was easy for paying rent and submitting maintenance requests.
Cons:
Roaches; garbage was not well managed; dead mice in the halls/entrance; entrance and hallways were dirty; the stairs were literally crumbling. Multiple complaints to management company did not help. Smoke detectors were over 10 years old and not working. Gas oven never worked and had no racks so we could not cook; they finally replaced it a few months before we moved.
Advice to owner:
Sassouni management was not responsive to maintenance requests and complaints.

Not the best, not the worst
Former Tenant
Pros:
Building management (Sassouni) is ok. You won’t have any nightmare experiences with them, but you also won’t feel like they’re the best management. The building is not the most up to date, but everything works and if it breaks they will fix it - with the speed depending on how serious the issue is.
Cons:
Cleanliness is not great, but not a dealbreaker. It’s a combination of the building’s age and how well it’s kept.

Nice place to live
Former Tenant
Pros:
New super keeping building much more clean.
Mostly quiet building, nice neighbors. In a great area. No pests in my apartment.
Cons:
Gets really hot in the winter(no control of heat). Random items left around building for a long time
