Historic building shadowed by highrises
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is a historic landmark and is also rent stabilized. Windows had great south exposures, is situated right above Jay St Metrotech with access to many great subway lines, adjacent to great neighborhoods with Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo, and Fort Greene all within a 10 minute walk. Building management are kind and responsive.
Cons:
The southern exposure (main source of sunlight for most apartments) is now blocked by a large highrise development. Jay St is chaotic, with plenty of noise, panhandling, and sometimes violence outside the doorstep (be ready to step in human poop right outside the building entrance).
Advice to owner:
There's not much the owners can do about the neighborhood changing around this Stuart Little building. Keep being kind to tenants.
