Owner makes a lot of dumb choices
Former Tenant
Pros:
He is very lax as far as what you do in your own apartment.
Cons:
Doesn't repair things that need it like the fire escape which is currently zip tied together, but then will add an entire deck to his own unit over a weekend. Tiles have been cracked and crumbling in apartment for years and they literally sent a guy over with a hammer to smash them more and throw some grout in the cracks so they would lay more flat. They are once again completely crumbling because that's just not how you fix a floor. He forgot to put an exit point from the backyard as well and a tenant had to point out to him that there was no way to get out in a fire. Especially since this building literally did already catch fire a few years ago. He's not a bad guy necessarily, he's just kind of dumb.
Advice to owner:
Fix the fire escape that one is pretty egregious

Former Tenant
Pros:
Fun building, young people/artists living there
Cons:
Caught fire and manager (Charles Rothstein) didn’t help out in anyway to tenants; demanding rent 2 days after fire from Apartment whos ceiling is literally half gone from burned and water damage! Tried to kick out the other tenants who were there in less damaged units. Ignores any help requests for repairs from fire and starts construction in damaged units. This blows all the debris of burned ashes/insulation through major holes into other units with people living there and bribed tenant in 2nd floor $500 off rent to not mention black mold when inspector visited.
They will bully you into things with illegal actions and hopes you don’t know it’s illegal, or if you acknowledge you know will just ignore you. As far as to cut power to unit & padlock us out of our apartment with all our furniture belonging inside.
Advice to owner:
Building managers need to be making fair, safe and legal decisions and actions.
