Review Summary for Yisroel Landau
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Tenants of buildings managed by Yisroel Landau appreciate spacious apartments, good locations, and some responsive superintendents. However, major recurring issues include persistent pest infestations (especially roaches and mice), inconsistent heating, and poor garbage management. Noise complaints and occasional neighbor disputes also go insufficiently addressed. Management responsiveness often varies, with some renters finding communication rude or unhelpful, and maintenance concerns sometimes neglected. While buildings may be quiet and in desirable neighborhoods, upkeep suffers due to outdated infrastructure and insufficient pest control. Prospective renters should expect management to be slow or ineffective in resolving serious tenant complaints.

roach infestation problems
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is in a great area and the apartments are quite big with high ceilings.
Cons:
It has a serious roach infestation and the building management does not take it seriously.
Advice to owner:
Get a roach service that does the job properly.

DO NOT RENT FROM THESE LANDLORDS!
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location, water pressure, great super
Cons:
Tons of roaches and water bugs, zero noise isolation, landlords will never respond to your phone calls, inconsistent heat, mold in every corner of the bathrooms,
Advice to owner:
For the love of god, spend some of that extra money you get increasing rent every year and fix the roach infestation in the building. Install more machines in the Laundry room (currently out of code due to the ratio of machines per units).

I love everything but the mice!
Former Tenant
Pros:
I love that this building is quiet. The super is very responsive, there is a great mix of families, single folks, young couples and older folks who have lived here for a long time. Everyone is so nice, I've never had an issue with a neighbor and generally everyone stays to themselves. When I first moved in, there was an issue with package pirates, but cameras were then installed on each floor and that issue went away. I was away for a week and came home to all of my packages still at my front door. My apartment is huge for NYC. I easily have a king sized bedroom with ample room for my wfh set up, a dresser and more.
Cons:
All of that said, we have mice! And they are relentless. I am super clean and my apartment is minimally furnished! The exterminator comes the last Friday of every month, and still! I think that the issue is that the building seems to be dealing with the issue apartment by apartment, rather than treating the whole building. I've even had our super say that he can't keep them out of his apartment. When they fill the holes the mice gnaw into my apartment, I can hear the mice in the walls gnawing new passages in. It's maddening. Literally because of this alone, I am leaving. I no longer want to deal with the daily search for and cleaning up of droppings!
Advice to owner:
Please treat the whole building and secure against mice! I've lived in other large buildings and I know others who do as well who don't have ongoing issues with mice! This is fixable.

Moving due to noise
Former Tenant
Pros:
Three short blocks from Kings Hwy B/Q train stop. Generally a quiet neighborhood. Just a block from many stores and restaurants on Kings Highway.
Cons:
I lived in apt 3L for the past 5 years. I'm moving out due to new upstairs neighbor with two small children who ran across from one end of their apt to the other and stomp all day every day. When I went up to request them to try to keep it down, the husband threatened to kill me if I ever bring up about the noise again. I reported it to the management, but ultimately, they could not do anything, and the upstairs tenants are ignoring the management's request to lay down carpet to reduce the noise.

Big spaces, mediocre upkeep but getting better
Former Tenant
Pros:
Mostly quiet building. Friendly and responsive new super. Good heat and water pressure. Reliable extermination.
Cons:
Could be cleaner in common areas. Laundry facilities low quality. Slow elevator that goes out semi-regularly.

Roaches roaches roaches
Former Tenant
Pros:
Generally a quiet building unless your window faces the synagogue that shares windows with the alley (The synagogue seems to be immune to covid-safety enforcement and noise complaints).

The super is a nice person and very hard working, but its too much work for one person alone especially with all of the added workload/pressure the pandemic put on the job. So while he generally does a great job keeping the building clean there are some understandable gaps/lapses.
Cons:
The roach problem is out of control. They hire exterminators to come by once in a blue moon, but all they do is squirt some poison food paste or something in a few spots and call it a day.. but if anything the population swells after each visit of the exterminator. They also never give you a heads up when the exterminator is coming to make sure you'll be home. The roaches run this building.

I suspect someone is illegally renting out the rooms in the basement, which doesnt generally bother me however one of these rooms was storing a motorcycle and each time the owner took it in or out the fumes would circulate throughout the basement and first floor, and the engine revving would make the floors and walls shake.

It also appears that after a recent construction job, there has been some asbestos interrupted during the course of the work (where none of the workers wore face masks for covid safety or general not breathing in asbestos dust safety) and irresponsibly left the powder on the floor and to circulate in the air.
Advice to owner:
Fumigate the basement properly, and hire a real exterminator who doesnt stand to benefit to collecting a recurring check when their work doesnt do anything to limit the roach population in the building.

Please stop hiring the cheapest/unlicensed workers to do construction throughout the building, they are reckless with safety protocals and understandably do a half assed job that will inevitably require more repairs.

Neighbor Harassment & Roach Infestation
Former Tenant
Pros:
New fixtures, good light, decent location.
Cons:
The roach infestation is disgusting. My downstairs neighbor has been harassing me since day one. He throws things at the ceiling, screams at me through the floor and spreads malicious slanderous rumors around the building about me and other tenants. Incredibly unstable man. He has made an enemy of every person that has ever lived above, below, and beside him. Management has done nothing about it despite a dozen emails, phone calls, and police reports. He's been here for at least a decade and it seems as long as he's paying rent, he's here to stay.

DO NOT RENT APARTMENT F5.

Save yourself the trouble, rent elsewhere.
Advice to owner:
Listen to your tenants, take their problems seriously.

Basement should be in a better condition than it is in now.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Well heated in the winter.
Cons:
I don’t like how everything falls apart in the apartment quickly and how dirty the windows are from the outside. I also don’t like that the basement is dirty from all the garbage. It used to be much cleaner.
Advice to owner:
Start painting the entrance and inside of the building and get normal benches. Also, please make sure the garbage is cleaned from the basement to prevent more bugs from coming in!!!!

Not recommended
Former Tenant
Pros:
Quiet area, schools, no shopping
Cons:
Mice, cockroaches, no laundry in the building, hot water problem, because people have their own washer. In the winter time very cold in the apartment, I have to put extra plastic on the windows to keep hit inside. No food and other shops nearby
Advice to owner:
Get rid of mice and cockroaches. Get hot water running all the time , not only sometimes. Get more hit at winter

Old building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Neighbors are fairly quiet
Cons:
Outdated building, needs a lot of work done. Possible rodent problem, security issues.
Advice to owner:
Property owner does not care about tenant’s living conditions. Multiple attempts to get a response or to get reimbursed for repairs made at my expense are ignored.

Do not move here!
Former Tenant
Pros:
Tons of natural light (if front facing to 84th St.) + view of the Verrazano Bridge, & SOME fixtures depending on your unit (big bath tub). Water pressure is very good. Heat is good.
Cons:
Super is abusive & crude. Beats his wife & children. Roach INFESTATION throughout. No support from management. Landlord is a Hasidic family company = no direct modern contact. Only through USPS snail mail. So irresponsible & disrespectful. DO NOT MOVE HERE!
Advice to owner:
Stop disrespecting your tenants. Stop raising rent for NO REASON. FIX THE ROACH PROBLEM.
Cheap people that don't care.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Roomy bright appartments is a good thing.
Cons:
Some apartments are extremely cold to be in the winter. We have ice built up on windows!
1. Ppl complained with no luck. Management says to fix old windows in the building, and they will have to split the cost among tenants. BS - this is your business and your cost of operating it.
2. Draft windows problem is in every apartment. It's COLD, Freezing!
3. Old falling apart windows. Be prepared to have a high electric bill because of the space heater you will be using.
4. They even bolt in all the windows in the building, so we have no fresh air coming in the hall! COVID prevention is not about this Management!
5. As a previous reviewer mentioned, there are cockroaches in this building.
Exterminator company is a joke and doesn't do the good treatment. They use cream crap pesticides that simply don't work. Tax right off for the management as if they spend a fortune for treatment (no stupid live here), it's obvious.
Advice to owner:
Stop being CHEAP! You are the Cheapest Management in the block, and everyone knows it now!
Change all windows out of our pocket.

I don’t know how I lasted as long as I did
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location, neighbors and superintendent.
Cons:
Garbage disposal, roaches, lack of heat, rude management, dirty building.
Advice to owner:
Think about your tenants. Listen to them and don’t be rude and/or teach your staff to be less rude.

Spacious , old building
Former Tenant
Pros:
It is spacious unlike other Brooklyn buildings
Cons:
Very old and no one takes care of it.
Advice to owner:
Take care of the building. Change pipes. Put heat properly and on-time. Tale care of the pests.
