Home Sweet Home - Unless There's an Issue

Pros:
Perfect Street - idyllic Boerum Hill nestled between the business of the Barclays Center and the quaintness of Cobble Hill. Right next to a coffee shop!

High ceilings
Central air in the renovated units
W/D in the renovated units
Cons:
The walls are made of paper - you can hear everything anyone is doing. I had a noisy neighbor that disturbed my sleep for half the time of my lease. You can't hang up anything.
Management - I was accused of not paying rent, people were uncommunicative via email, etc. It was really hard for me to live somewhere where the landlord and management company were hostile to simple requests.
Advice to owner:
Please be understanding and communicative with your tenants.

Pretty Roach Hotel

Pros:
Beautifully updated unit. Amazing location with a short walk to several main subway stops and easy access to stores, grocery, restaurants and bars. Beautiful tree lined Boerum Hill.
Cons:
The landlord is avoidant, combative, patronizing and tends to gaslight and manipulate. Updated units are part of his gentrifying plan. Most tenants in the building have lived there for decades in rent controlled apts and some told us the landlord ignores their repair requests entirely in hopes they’ll leave so he can flip their unit. He’s arrogant and will become defensive before he’s helpful. Horrible pest issues with roaches EVERYWHERE no matter how clean you are or how many traps you put out. The building needs to be fumigated. You can hear rats running around and scratching inside the walls at all hours. Packages stolen from lobby (landlord said it was my fault for having valuables shipped there). Very thin walls - you can hear everything and if they don’t close their doors gently your entire apt will shake. Rental payment must be mailed checks.
Advice to owner:
Take pride in your job and be a better person. Take better care of your tenants and please, PLEASE get better pest control.

Beautiful exposed brick, good appliances, great location
Cons:
Sometimes peoples dogs would poop in the hallway and it wouldn’t get cleaned up. Package thieves.

Renovated unit but structural issues and unresponsive landlord

- Unit was renovated with new appliances and finishings
Cons:
- Major water damage that went unaddressed by landlord for weeks
- Water damage and mold was never resolved, just painted over
- Extremely thin walls, if neighbors do not gently close their doors, the entire apartment would rattle
- Dirty lobby and stairwell
- Unit was not thoroughly caulked and roaches would crawl through cracks
- Could hear rats in the walls
- Summer fly issue in the front of apartment due to sitting trash
- Never received security deposit back
