Review Summary for Debra Cooper
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Tenant reviews of buildings managed by Debra Cooper reveal a mix of experiences. Many appreciate clean, well-maintained buildings with attentive supers and friendly neighbors. Management responsiveness varies, with some praising quick repairs and communication, while others report inconsistency and slow responses. Pest control is a common concern, especially with persistent roach issues despite regular exterminations. Noise and neighbor conflicts emerge as problems in certain locations, affecting tenant satisfaction. Some buildings face challenges with heating, water pressure, and garbage management. While several tenants recommend staying based on location and community, others voice frustration with management's handling of tenant disputes and infrastructure upkeep, urging better responsiveness and improvements.

It is an excellent well kept building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Clean quiet, really good laundry equipment. Good neighbors always feel safe.
Cons:
It’s not as close to a subway as I would like it’s about a 15 minute walk minimum.
Advice to owner:
Keep doing what you’re doing

Spacious apts with charm
Former Tenant
Pros:
Residential neighborhood, spacious apartments
Cons:
Super is very inconsistent with repair requests

Good building with nice super, roach issues
Former Tenant
Pros:
The people are nice and the building is nice, heat gets very hot but very occasionally it isn't turned on.
Cons:
Construction on our apartment seemed lazy, grout breaking off and coming up. We have issues with cockroaches.

Pretty damn bad
Former Tenant
Pros:
Big apartments, good location, nice super who does his best despite a crap situation.
Cons:
Awful landlord, worst I’ve had in 20 years of living in NYC and is just a totally nasty narcissistic asshole. Won’t reply to email, you have to call or go there in person. Says crazy racist stuff, as do their repair people. They do bare minimum or a little less, whatever they can get away with, to keep up the building. They ignore issues with tenants (and there are many) for years until they end up getting worse and worse and end in assaults, court cases, etc when they could have gotten off their lazy rich upper east side butts to do something about the problem before it was a huge issue. They make me consider leaving NYC frequently.
Advice to owner:
Be less awful

Never thought I’d move from a rent stabilized apartment.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Not much tbh. Good sq footage and location I guess.
Cons:
Extremely loud and rude neighbors. I had the cops called on me for asking my upstairs neighbor if they could please quiet down. Management company is unresponsive or dismissive of claims. Also had several packages stolen.
Advice to owner:
Dump your terrible management company.

Good Building, Loud Street
Former Tenant
Pros:
I lived here for 5 years, and had a positive experience. Clean building, good neighbors, responsive management and super.
Cons:
There are roaches, like almost any large-prewar building, but so long as you sign up for the exterminator every month, you will not have an issue. Empire Blvd gets loud, but the building itself is good.

Roaches are a serious issue
Former Tenant
Pros:
Apartments can be spacious, laundry on site, newly renovated elevator, super is very responsive, free monthly exterminator sign up.
Cons:
Roaches are a serious issue in this building. They have exterminators come regularly and you can sign up monthly, but it doesn’t really help. If you don’t sign up sometimes you’ll get an influx of roaches from nearby apartments that do. Backyard is also unkempt and laundry room closes at 8 which can be difficult for people working 9-5. Packages also get stolen occasionally, on a few occasions by a tenant in the building and nothing was really done about it despite there being camera evidence.
Advice to owner:
Investing in figuring out where the roach nests are and eradicating them and then enforcing policies to keep them out.

Keeping laundry room open 24hrs.

Investing in making the backyard space nice. I feel like I’m looking out onto a trash pit out my window.

Love my apartment building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Super is great
Management takes care of building
Neighbors are friendly
Cons:
There is not roof top access and I'm on the first floor so I have no outdoor space.

The Good & The Bad
Former Tenant
Pros:
The in-house laundry-mat, friendly supers & cleanly building
Cons:
Old neighbors are arrogant, sour & have to be counseled in respecting the youth
Advice to owner:
Out with the old in with the new age-couples

Worst management services
Former Tenant
Pros:
Heat cleaningness services
Cons:
All sorts of creatures creeping on you. Management doesn’t listen to tenants.
Advice to owner:
Give us the services that we need in the building.

I like it here
Former Tenant
Pros:
- Large rooms
- Clean
- Clean and working laundry area
- Helpful management
- Elevators in good shape

- Emailed management about large gap under our front door that was allowing roaches and one mouse to get in. Our door is right next to garbage shoot so we wanted a guard on our door to block. Emailed and within a few hours, supers we’re screwing in a blocker.
Cons:
- Empire Blvd can get loud and bring in lots of soot at windows
- Poorly insulted windows and floors

Great Building on Great Street
Former Tenant
Pros:
You can’t beat the location of this building. Tree lined street and close to restaurants and shops on Vanderbilt. The super was great - very kind and took nice care of the building. 1 bedroom apartments were great for a couple or single person with a separate kitchen and queen sized bedrooms.
Cons:
Elevator breaks from time to time. Some neighbors can be disrespectful. Packages get stolen from time to time

Love living with a doorperson
Former Tenant
Pros:
Door people are wonderful! Especially Charlie. Super in basement and pretty attentive.
Cons:
I had cockroaches despite being clean. I think it’s just impossible to fully remove them from such an old building with so many nooks and crannies.

The hardwood floors are beautiful but very squeaky. My neighbors below me left passive aggressive notes telling me to step quieter. I lived there alone, walk pretty softly, and had rugs covering most of my bedroom and living room.
Advice to owner:
Bike storage would be nice!

Beautiful building, friendly super and doormen. Cool view from the roof. Very clean public spaces.
Cons:
I wish there was bike storage.
Advice to owner:
Add bike storage?

Awesome corner in front of the Brooklyn Museum
Former Tenant
Pros:
Closer to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park, and subway
Cons:
Old unites, and could bother you the noise from outside Museums activities like concerts or screenings.
Advice to owner:
Have access to the rooftop .

Pros:
The door men are super friendly and helpful
Cons:
Lots of noise from the street

Lived there for 5 years
Former Tenant
Pros:
Large, spacious apartment with beautiful detail in arched walls. Rent was more than reasonable— perhaps even low by some estimations. The grounds are kept clean. Relatively quiet neighbors.
Cons:
The elevator was ghastly. The project heat was real. The bathroom was hideous.
Advice to owner:
The super needs to be more responsive.
