Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for buildings managed by John Psaras reveals persistent management challenges despite some positive aspects. Tenants note reasonable rent prices and rent stabilization benefits; however, there are consistent complaints about poor building upkeep, including pest infestations, outdated infrastructure, and inadequate heating and water systems. Communication is often slow or unresponsive, with difficulty reaching management and a lack of willingness to address critical repairs swiftly. Supers are generally helpful but frequently overwhelmed or replaced often, leading to inconsistent maintenance. Noise issues and tenant conflicts are also common, sometimes poorly managed. Overall, expect dated buildings with limited management engagement and maintenance delays.

Reviews

It's an alright place

Pros

- The building is the quietest I've lived in through the years in Brooklyn. The tenants are mostly couples without children, older folks, and singles who are polite and quiet. - The super is pretty responsive and will repair things fairly quickly when needed. - The building is close to transportation. - Have only seen three cockroaches in total in the several years lived here. - The rent is reasonable. - They allow cats.

Cons

- The walls, molding, doorknobs, and power outlets suffer from the landlord paint job special. These apartments have never seen painter's tape or a drop cloth. - The vinyl/linoleum floors in the kitchen are ugly, crumbling, and old. The sinks are old, the stove is ancient, and using the oven feels a bit risky, had gas leak issue once. - The apartment was pretty dirty when I first moved in. - You have to pay rent by check, not the most convenient, and it's incredibly hard to get a hold of management.

Advice to the owners

Upkeep the vintage areas like the parquet floors which gives the place vintage charm, but please replace the linoleum with tile so that it's not constantly peeling,

Cheap for reason

Pros

Spacious, rent stabilized, love the area, beautiful prewar features

Cons

Super didn’t fix broken front door for 6 months, they paint over power outlets to make them unusable and hazardous, they paint over clear water leaks

Advice to the owners

Stop painting over the outlets and water damage
