Roaches and more roaches
Former Tenant
Pros:
The view from my apartment was amazing
Cons:
Roach infestation, filthy trash rooms but maintenance tried their best with that, thin walls, and inconsiderate neighbors
Advice to owner:
Burn it down and build it back up properly next time because the whole building is infested

Bugs, smoking, garbage, broken elevator
Former Tenant
Pros:
Big apartments with good layouts
Cons:
Elevator breaks down with you in it, flies in elevator from trash, neighbors leave garbage everywhere, people smoke in the building, roaches, packages get stolen often

My longest tenancy
Former Tenant
Pros:
The entire maintenance staff took pride I. The work they did. They kept the buildings immaculate,
The management company offered services to families like after school programs, food and nutrition referrals, holiday events, mental health days for parents, seminars on many topics of interest, financial advice, We had security who were very pleasant and comforting
Cons:
No elevator, the laundry room was often out of order and did not offer a coin machine,
Advice to owner:
Improve the laundry service,

Decent building to live in
Former Tenant
Pros:
Great lighting. Affordable. Spacious. Heat/Hot water. Improved wait time for fixtures.
Cons:
Could be maintained better or more frequently in terms of cleanliness and upkeep of building. Rodents.
Advice to owner:
Be better in having availability or being more prompt in responding to issues of the building by tenants. Fix rodent issue. Remove scaffolding from building.

Ready to MOVE!
Former Tenant
Pros:
When I originally moved in? The bedroom space, the outdoor space, and the building parking garage.
Cons:
The residents, the rodents, the management, the unlocked lobby doors, the inaccessible courtyard, the inaccessible parking garage, the noise, the smoking in a non-smoke building, everything is wrong with this apartment and I am ready to leave. I deserve better!
Advice to owner:
DO BETTER!!!!

not a bad place overall
Former Tenant
Pros:
regular cleanings and garbage removal
Cons:
tenants often damage property (break front door and elevator buttons) and maintenance is difficult to get a hold of
Advice to owner:
address tenants who break things. they’re way too comfortable yanking the door until it breaks open

Times are hard, but living here would be harder.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Very nice area. A very pretty-looking building, in a chic, upbeat neighborhood, which makes everything that follows this about to be even more of a shame.
I love the neighborhood, I really do, and the units are very cozy and it feels more like being in a house than in an apartment building. Historic and LGBT+friendly, too. Laundry right on site too and in a small building feels like just walking downstairs from a college dorm to get things clean. They maintain the machines, at least.
Cons:
To be blunt: It's falling apart, and will continue to. I won't be surprised if the LES has its own Sunnyside on its hands. COVID has gutted city services, inclucing inspections, so bothering is pointless. It's clear that even though their maint department isn't specialized in things like structural repair, the very head of things, the CEO and all, do not care to dig out a little pocket change to do more than hire a guy to hammer a wooden plank here and there.
Including under floor joists that are sagging and more. This is a prewar, wooden building. They utilize floating floors but don't take care of them, so you're gonna feel like you're on a carnival ride 24/7. As I said, this is a beautiful but neglected old thing that, given how things are, I'm not even sure has a year or two left in her. But as said, management itself would rather watch it deteriorate than get it checked out. I've been here for many, many years and watched management change hands. Whomever was running things back when it all first opened had a head on their shoulders. Whomever's running things now has their head somewhere else and is not involved at all. There's better, spots in this wonderful community to live. And as much as it pains me, I've begun to hunt for one. It shouldn't have to be like this.
Advice to owner:
If you somehow read this, which I know you won't, I only have two words for you. Do better.

Apartments are meh for where it is
Former Tenant
Pros:
Low income housing
Cons:
Drug dealers in hallways, dirty hallways and and already cracking foundation that's visible in the upper floor apartments and staircases. Definitely a rushed job. Dying to move out.
Advice to owner:
Your workers need to stop stealing people's rent checks, replaying to tenants with issues and stop sending notices to people saying that they are mysteriously missing a rent payment when they simply either pocket the money or enter it into our accounts "accidentally". Do better.

Sincerely,
A 20 year tenant.

Experience gone downhill.
Former Tenant
Pros:
There are two laundromats in the building but that is about it.
Cons:
There are problems with the elevators. There is a BIG rodent problem and maintenance has not been a big help.
Advice to owner:
Better maintenance needed. Needs to be an extermination done on the building. Apartment is not worth as much as the rent.
too many pests
Former Tenant
Pros:
not much going for this place
Cons:
Huge pest issue and exterminators hired just come in and put a goop around the apartment (which is ineffective)
Advice to owner:
take care of the pest issue please

WTF, is this NYCHA???
Former Tenant
Pros:
Being close to public transportation and supermarkets.
Cons:
Management is not responsive. Neighbors (inside and outside) are noisy and loud, stairwells looks like they belong in NYCHA housing - not just the look but the smell and trash too! The garbage is taken out semi-daily but only the lobby floor is cleaned every day. The second elevator has been out for about two years. There is trash being stored in the back courtyard, the laundry never works nor is it cleaned. There is always left over soap in the machines from the previous user. Parking - which was supposed to be a perk of the building has not been reassigned since I got there in 2014. There are homeless people who camp out in the building, packages are always stolen and despite getting new keys, the lobby door does not lock. This is a safety issue considering the turn the neighborhood overall has taken. I moved into this building under the guise of having a washer and dryer IN MY UNIT. I was told I had to sign my lease before viewing the apartment. Because I had no other choice, I moved in. If I had known it had no washer or dryer, I would have stayed at my previous apartment.
Advice to owner:
Listen and respect your tenants.

Avoid If Possible
Former Tenant
Pros:
There's a dishwasher in the unit as well as a laundry room in the building. If you reach out to the management office in need of a repair, there is maintenance crew that does repairs if needed.
Cons:
The maintenance crew does their best to keep the building clean but there are neighbors that do not care and will toss trash anywhere and smoke in the hallways.

The maintenance crew also makes an effort to come fix important things like smoke detectors or leaks but if they feel like a repair isn't necessary, say, a cabinet falling off its hinges, they won't show up.

There were new washers and dryers put in a little over a year ago that warranted a price raise but they already don't work.

There is also a huge pest problem! I keep my apartment as clean as possible and still found roaches in my fridge AND dishwasher, both appliances that get kept closed.

There's also no cameras anywhere in a building located in not-so-safe neighborhood.
Advice to owner:
Stop raising the rent if you can't even get washing machines and dryers that work.

good location, difficult for day to day
Former Tenant
Pros:
its in the city and within walking distance from many train lines (6, n, r, l) the rooms were fairly big
Cons:
there is a rehab center nearby and it can feel sketchy at night, maintenance fell off due to covid it was very hard to get any necessary repairs done, roach problem by the trash doors, have had mice over the years, laundry machine barrels are dislodged from the machine itself which is a hazard

Building is nice and neighbors are nice too
Former Tenant
Pros:
Always was hot water
Cons:
Sometimes the people who hang in the building are loud.
