Review Summary for Rubin Schron
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews for buildings managed by Rubin Schron reveal a mixed experience. Positives include convenient locations, pet-friendly policies, and responsive supers in some buildings, contributing to a generally well-kept environment. However, persistent issues with heating—often inadequate or inconsistent—are common, especially in winter. Pest control remains a significant challenge, with frequent roach and sometimes bedbug infestations reported. Cleanliness and garbage management vary widely, with some buildings criticized for dirty hallways and poor garbage handling. Noise levels and neighbor behavior also affect living comfort in certain locations. Responsiveness from management is inconsistent, with some tenants experiencing slow or unhelpful service. Overall, management shows effort but improvements in maintenance and communication are needed.

It could be worse
Former Tenant
Pros:
It’s convenient to get to the trains stations
Cons:
It has cockroaches, there’s mold in some of the apartments the landlord takes forever to fix something if he tells you a time he won’t show up either hours later or not at all people he stealing packages the elevator tends to break down so many times barely any insulation so in the summer it either gets too hot and in the winter it gets really cold also if it rains too much it started leaking through the ceiling

Former Tenant

Cons:

Mediocre Care and Maintenance
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice neighbors, especially ones that have been living there for decades. They will hold your packages and help out if needed.
Cons:
Very lazy about cleanliness. Hallway walls are dirty and are not maintained. Heat during the winter is almost non existent, only for 15 minutes in the early morning hours and again around Noon. A lot of tenants do not fumigate so you're stuck with trying to avoid roaches from coming into your apartment and must cover all holes even in the radiator, from preventing them from coming in from the walls.

Building Review Elmhurst
Former Tenant
Pros:
The super is very helpful and nice.
Cons:
Neighbors are loud and disrespectful. Dangerous at night, high area of gang violence, and dirty elevators and hallways.
Responsive super but loud building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Super is responsive and the hallways are always clean.
Cons:
The laundry room is small and right next to the garbage room.

No good place
Former Tenant
Pros:
It is close to bus stations and train station. It also close to kissena Park and Queen Botanical Garden
Cons:
It is very dirty. There are roaches even in the elevator. And for many months I fight with bedbugs. I move out because of that, the owner never did something good about it
Advice to owner:
Clean. Hire more people. Be respectful

Has it’s CONS & PROS
Former Tenant
Pros:
You’re close to everything convenient location, horrible environment
Cons:
Pest control issues
Paid too much to live like that
Former Tenant
Pros:
Exterior grounds were nice.
Cons:
Infested with roaches, no matter how often the exterminator would come. I would sign up weekly and the whole building was just so infested. Not enough heat, we had to use space heaters because the apartment was so cold. For the amount of rent they charge, you’d think you would have heat and not live with a million roaches. Also management goes nothing about noisy neighbors. I’m talking about extreme noise, not just every day sounds. Blasting music at 6 am, screaming and running around at 2, 3 am almost every night.
Advice to owner:
Do something about the noise when tenants can’t get any sleep. Give enough heat, and my god take care of the roach infestation

Pets allowed free
Former Tenant

Pets allowed free
Cons:
Not enough/regular heat
Thin walls and ceilings
Advice to owner:
Insulate walls and ceilings.

Could be better
Former Tenant
Pros:
? I’m thinking
Cons:
We have a yard that can’t be used by people because it so dirty and full of dog crap. The roaches out number the tenants. They are in the halls and lobby, garbage room they greet us in the garage.

The building is kept clean and the landlord and super are responsive.
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is well-kept, the tenants are courteous, the super and his staff are responsive to any inquiries or issues in the apartment, there are cameras in the lobby which help for when packages get delivered, there is practically no pest issue (exterminator sees tenants twice a month), there is a management office on-site where you can go to ask questions or speak to the building manager or pay rent.
Cons:
When you want to speak to someone at the management office, you have to go there in person. They’re not very responsive by telephone, which can be inconvenient if you’re busy and want to deal with something over the phone. Also, the number for the super is routed to the same line as the number for the management office. So if you’re trying to reach the super and you call the office and they do not pick up, you won’t be connected to the Super’s office. So you’d have to go there in person too.
Advice to owner:
Create a separate phone line for the super’s office that is different from the one for the management office. It would be more convenient.

Grew up here
Former Tenant
Pros:
This was many years ago but there were a lot of families back then there gave the building a very homey feeling.
Cons:
Apartments were usually stuffed with families. With there comes pests, smells etc.

Management needs to change
Former Tenant
Pros:
The neighbors are nice and friendly most of the time.
Cons:
The superintendent is an asshole who wants to do nothing. When something is brought to his attention he directs you to someone else.

The contractors who come to fix buildings leave open holes if it interferes with their schedule, they don’t even cover it they just leave the job undone and it is hazardous to the tenants.
Advice to owner:
Change your management immediately. The well being of the tenants are at risk.

Former Tenant

Advice to owner:

Property Manager From HELL
Former Tenant
Pros:
The area is a great area to live in however the property manager uses that to not fix any issues in the building to frustrate people into leaving so she can raise the rent for the next tenant.
Cons:
The super takes 1-2 months to fix any issue with the excuse that the property manager doesn’t respond to his order requests. Once the property manager is contacted by phone she ignores you. When you go to her office in person she acts like she’s busy so she can ignore your needs. But as soon as your late in rent she magically is free to bother you, yes even during a pandemic.
Advice to owner:
Give your property manager a reality check, she is messing with people’s lively hood while acting like she’s above everyone. Also check your reviews on Google this is not the only property you own with these issues.
