Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews for buildings managed by Mark Scharfman reveal a mixed experience for tenants. While residents appreciate spacious apartments, good locations, and community-oriented neighbors, significant issues arise regarding management responsiveness and building maintenance. Many tenants report slow reactions to repair requests and ongoing concerns with cleanliness, pest control, and heating issues. Construction nearby adds to the discomfort, with complaints about noise and disruptions. Although there are positive aspects, such as effective garbage management and reasonable rent, the overall feedback indicates a need for improved owner engagement and timely maintenance to ensure a better living experience.

Reviews

Former tenant·just now

Was great - construction ruining enjoyment

Pros

Great neighbors and spacious apartments. Location is amazing. Generally pest free. Was generally well maintained 1-2 years ago but has gone downhill in terms of cleanliness and parcel management.

Cons

Right next to a massive construction project. Endless loud noise and dust, some new pests, owners not willing to reflect this in rent. Property managers not responsive on the issue.

Advice to the owners

Reflect and acknowledge the change in enjoyment from construction

Good value but lots of cons

Pros

Good value for area and space. Lots of storage. Considerate neighbors.

Cons

Super and building manager are responsive but real repairs must be approved by building manager who hands you off to contractors who are unresponsive. Had outstanding repair requests made that were ignored for 5 months. Had to get 311 involved. Even then, still ignored. There are 2 washers and dryers but one dryer does not work and they won’t fix it no matter how many times they send someone. The staircase and hallways are really dirty and caked with dust and dog hair. Water temperature randomly goes cold. Located near BQE so lots of pollution. Noise pollution from BQE, school across street (there’s a bus at 8 am and cars always start honking), and fire station a block from apartment.
