Review Summary for The Helena Associates LLC
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews for THE HELENA ASSOCIATES LLC buildings emphasize well-maintained, clean properties with friendly, helpful staff and quick maintenance responses. Residents appreciate the organized garbage management, good pest control, and generally quiet living environments. However, consistent concerns include aggressive rent increases, sometimes high prices, and occasional issues with amenities such as elevators, heating, and air conditioning units. While management is often praised for responsiveness, a few renters have reported slow or unhelpful leasing office interactions. Overall, tenants value the buildings for their quality and service but caution prospective renters about potential rent hikes and some facility improvements.

Nice building, but huge rent increases make it hard to live here long term
Former Tenant
Pros:
Clean, beautiful, spacious apartments. Staff is mostly friendly. Management generally responsive. I enjoyed my time living there.
Cons:
The main issue I had is that they raised my rent significantly year after year to the point where I had no choice but to move out. I found out from others in the building that they had tons of occupancy, so I assume this was just a move to maximize profits. A bummer, because I would have liked to stay there for a long time. If you move here ensure you are either wealthy enough to weather the big rent increases or otherwise get ready to move out after a year or two.

Overall Solid
Former Tenant
Pros:
Management is responsive, staff are pleasant and location is convenient to Riverside Park South.
Cons:
In our current apartment, the AC/heating unit in the bedroom is older and very loud. There is sometimes the smell of smoke in the hallways, even though the building is smoke-free.

Wonderful place to live - great management
Former Tenant
Pros:
I lived here for several years and really enjoyed it. The building, gym, and management are all excellent. It used to have better views before VIA and other buildings were build.... but now it has nicer stores in the area. Great doormen and great valet.
Cons:
Lost our view due to new buildings. Roof deck closed 1/2 the year.
Advice to owner:
Try to extend roof deck by installing heaters.

Reasonably affordable and spacious
Former Tenant
Pros:
Clean, big closets, good noise control (at least on higher floors, not sure on lower), responsive staff.
Cons:
Kind of out of the way in terms of public transportation but the flip side is that it’s quieter/less crowded.

Horrible Management, Great Staff
Former Tenant
Pros:
Doormen, and staff. They are really awesome!
Cons:
Durst management does not care. Their office is across the street, yet difficult to get in touch with. When we first moved in, agent gave us wrong information about their “specials”, and did not find out until after lease was signed... It’s basically been like that since. For example, during pandemic they were supposed to refund us after the gym had closed. Multiple emails, 2 voicemails, nothing. We let it go, but were quick to move out 3 months before our lease expired. Also, they’re basically letting anyone move in. I understand covid was crushing, but when I see
someone in the lobby with ripped pajama pants revealing a chunk of their behind... I mean come on, Durst. Shame on you.
Advice to owner:
Hey Durst family, pay attention.
