Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant reviews of buildings managed by Charles Alpert reveal a mix of positive and negative experiences. Many appreciate the clean buildings, friendly supers, and responsive maintenance staff, noting well-kept amenities and desirable locations. However, several tenants report concerns about pest infestations, slow or unprofessional owner responsiveness, and management’s poor communication, with some describing rude or antagonistic behavior. Common complaints include elevator issues, noise disturbances, and delayed repairs, especially during ongoing construction. Rent increases and strict policies also reduce tenant satisfaction. Overall, while the staff and upkeep are often praised, management’s inconsistency in addressing tenants' concerns and transparency impacts the rental experience.

Peaceful Place to Live At

Pros

Clean, no issues with neighbors, don’t have issues with package stealing, close to various restaurants, laundry mat and trains (N,W,R) and buses

Cons

Time to Raise The Game

Pros

Doorman building Furnished lobby Large closets Art Deco design details Recently updated interior decor in hallways Great location near Washington Square Park Desirable neighborhood

Cons

Some services eliminated in the past 10 years. Doorman rarely uses intercom to check visitors. Deliveries from local eateries limited to lobby. Rare use of service entrance, 1 service elevator. Erratic elevator service (long waits, floor skipping.) Package room eliminated, packages parked in lobby.

Advice to the owners

Hold doorman accountable for important gate keeping.via intercom. Restore local food deliveries to our apartment doors. Comply with NYS law to consistently make due repairs/replacements and paint jobs. Manage communication professionally. There is little info about building-wide developments.
