Review Summary for Yossel Lichtman
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews for buildings managed by Yossel Lichtman reveal a mixed management experience. Some buildings are praised for cleanliness, good garbage management, central heating, and responsive management, especially in rent-stabilized units. However, several tenants report significant issues including poor noise insulation, maintenance delays, mold, water pressure problems, and pest control challenges. Safety concerns and unaddressed tenant complaints also appear at certain locations. While a few renters appreciate convenient locations and quiet environments, others criticize neglectful or unresponsive management and overpriced rents for the quality provided. Prospective renters should expect variability in management quality across different buildings under this landlord.

Absolutely Terrible and Disrespectful
Former Tenant
Pros:
I'll give the building the fact that for the most part there's no pests, the units are 'new' and the neighborhood is a nice place!
Cons:
My experience in this building and with the management was absolutely terrible. They do not care a single bit about any of the tenants and more about how much money they can squeeze out of us. This was my first time ever renting an apartment and they took full advantage of that. They had my studio listed at $2250 a month, which by the way was absolutely not worth the price for that small space, but then forced me to pay $3000 a month with 'three months free' when I tried to fight this they told me I couldn't move in if I didn't agree. first red flag. When I moved in I knew I had to share a balcony with my neighbor in the studio beside me but I figured we're all at home so we'll respect the space and mind our business, this was not the case. The walls are paper thin so I would wake up to my neighbor blasting music at 5 am before he left for work for a good hour and then blasting when he came home at night. I never made a complaint about it though because at the end of the day we all come home and decompress in different ways. What really got me was how invasive this man was. I was 20 at the time living alone and this man knew that so he would knock on my door at 1 am trying to speak to me about random things, yell at me in the hallway when he had a bad day, and even stole my clothes, suitcases, and our other neighbors books and hockey equipment out of the extra closet in the hallway. (mind you neither of these units had closets in them) When I confronted him about it he said he was just 'holding' these things for us and he's give them back which he only gave half and I didn't feel safe enough on my own to push and get it all back. When I alerted managment about it they did nothing but told me to call the police, which I did biut once again nothing came from it. This man was also bugging a lot of other young women in the building as well. When I met the new neighbors that moved in they wouldn't even answer the door for me in fear it was him. We finally met in passing and were immediately on the same page about him. And the same with the young women that lived in the apartment above us, he would call her name at night hoping she would come to the fire escape. This was every other night. Once again emails were sent and nothing was done. I also had a pair of shoes delivered that I had a friend to come pick them up because I was out of town but she told me they never arrived even though it said they were delivered so I left a note down stairs asking the building if anyone had taken the box, that night he knocked on my door with the box open and my shoes in his hand. I guess they didn't fit him lol. There was also another kid in the building taking the packages in the stairs to the laundry room and opening them, but the super FINALLY installed a camera after the whole building jumped on him because everyones packages were getting opened. When I tried to ask him about it the first time he straight up told me 'It's not my problem' and walked away?? He doesn't care about any of the tenants in the building honestly, you get more out of talking to a brick wall than him.
With all of this being said and done, I just decided to move out two months early because my neighbor was crossing a lot of boundaries and I felt unsafe knowing the building couldn't do anything. I notified them when I would be moving out and they wished me luck. The day I moved out majority of my things, I spoke with management letting them know I actually wasn't finished so I would be taking until the end of my lease to move the rest of my things out slowly, because after all I was still paying for those two months. I went back three days later to see the entire apartment cleared out. They threw away my furniture, three huge trash bags of my clothes and shoes, my cleaning supplies that I intended to use to clean the aprtment with before I left, everything in my bathroom, pots, pans, cups, silverware. It was a lot of things. I was devastated. I called the building manager chaim, which I knew would be no help but I tried anyways, and he denied everything. I emailed the management and they said it was a break in? But how could that be when I had to unlock the door to enter? And this time I knew for a fact it wasn't my neighbor because I had made sure to leave everything locked before I left. Now it's a month later and I'm still trying to get my security deposit (which was $3000) back on top of some sort of compensation for my things that were thrown away and they've stopped responding completely.
Overall, this being my first renting experience it was actually the most awful 10 months I've ever spent living anywhere, and I used to be in foster care..
I would not recommend this building if you're a young woman living alone especially on the 4th floor because that man renewed his lease lol. The apartments are over priced, the walls are paper thin, and theres always dog piss or shit along with human spit on the stair wells. Its not worth the price or the headache of dealing with these people, but I wish you the best of luck and don't forget to get everything in writing if there's issues and ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF!!!
