Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant reviews for buildings managed by Seth Schochet reveal a mixed management experience. Positively, doormen and staff often receive praise for being friendly and helpful, contributing to a sense of safety and community. Apartments are described as spacious with good locations and some well-maintained amenities. However, common issues include slow or unresponsive maintenance, pest infestations (especially mice and roaches), inconsistent heating, and poor garbage management. Several renters highlight challenges with managing noise, tenant behavior, and rent increases, especially for non-rent-stabilized units. Management responsiveness is inconsistent, with complaints of ignored repair requests and ineffective communication. Overall, expect decent security staff but prepare for potential management delays and maintenance hassles.

great doorman, bad management company

Pros

has everything you need, doorman, trash room, laundry in basement

Cons

things are a bit old, lots of cockroaches, management company takes a long time to do anything

Doorman are great but the rest is meh

Pros

The doorman are great! Especially the ones that have been here awhile.

Cons

- Constantly told someone will come to your apartment and then they never show to fix things, or if they do they look at it and have to come back another day. - If facing Malcolm X Blvd there's a lot of street noise - there is not much around since half the block burnt down. Worry if they ever build there as it'll be a year/s of construction if they get their tower approvals - if you're not on a rent stabilized lease (check with DHRC as they lie) then they'll jack up your rent to eye watering levels. - don't believe anything they promise before you sign the lease - any improvements they promise won't be done. - heating was fine for years but has been terrible for the last four. I heard they had to blow torch a neighbors pipes to defrost them. - if you're near the dog run expect barking early and late at night (This did get fixed after 2 years of complaints) - Had an assault in their laundry room but never notified the tenants. - People constantly get stuck in the elevators.
