Don’t rent
Former Tenant
Pros:
Most neighbors are nice. Street pretty quiet. One block from park.
Cons:
I’ve called in for city housing inspection. Really surprised none of my neighbors do because they talk together and complain too. But I had to not let this landlord get away with this and also make sure the complaints are posted to warn future residents. COCKROACHES everywhere. I’ve never had that before moving here. Foyer and halls with holes in walls and peeling paint. My apartment has a leaking exterior wall and my door isn’t self closing which is required. I haven’t even been here a year and the owner won’t work out a mutual release so I will move as soon as i can afford to pay two rents. My neighbor moved and his apartment door was open for painters so I snooped and I can’t believe how he was living and putting up with peeling paint and no light covers. His kitchen is a disaster. Makes my apartment look amazing comparably. I also think unfortunately that there is a hoarder in my building which may contribute to the pest issues. A neighbor in the building next door, same landlord, told me a ton of issues he has, including RATS, and showed me huge holes in his baseboards. The rent seemed more reasonable in early 2020 when I was looking, even though it is TINY, and I ignored the warning signs because of the great location but now there is much more inventory so believe your own eyes and stay far away. Also, the management actually moved into one of the units in the building so they have been here every day since August 2020 and they still don’t make it better.
Advice to owner:
Know what the housing maintenance code requires you to do and do it. It’s that simple. Tenants shouldn’t have to pay you and live like this. And if a tenant wants to leave, it would be good to negotiate on this.
