Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Renters of Lawrence Bernstein’s buildings report a mix of experiences. Positive notes include spacious apartments, friendly neighbors, and generally responsive superintendents. Many buildings are rent stabilized and offer amenities like laundry and occasional pools, though access may be limited. However, persistent pest issues (mice, roaches, bed bugs), inconsistent cleanliness, and occasional lack of timely maintenance are major concerns. Residents also cite package theft and broken doors. Management responsiveness varies, sometimes slow or evasive, with some renters describing dismissive or rude behavior. Communication and building upkeep, especially pest control and maintenance, are areas needing significant improvement.

Reviews

Solid place to live

Pros

The building is calm and quiet, the super is responsive, the apartments are spacious.

Cons

It is a prewar building and though pretty well maintained does show its age. There can be issues with pests

MANAGEMENT REFUSED TO CLEAN A DECEASED TENANT'S UNIT FOR ALMOST A FULL YEAR.

Pros

Pedro the super and his family do a great job keeping the place clean. The issue is not with them.

Cons

A woman died in unit 4U and management didn't want to pay to have the apartment deep cleaned for ALMOST ONE FULL CALENDAR YEAR. She died and wasn't found for 4 weeks, so she had reached advanced stages of decomposition. The 4th floor smelled like dead body this entire time. Flies were leaking into nearby units through the vent systems. Our unit also had mold around the windows and would leak during a heavy rain. Landlord REFUSED to fix it because it would require scaffolding, and they straight up said they didn't want to pay for it. Stay FAR AWAY from anything owned by Jonas Equities. Disgusting.

Advice to the owners

SPEND THE MONEY YOU STEAL FROM YOUR RENTERS AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR BUILDING. YOU'RE PATHETIC EXCUSES FOR LANDLORDS.
