1254 Union Street
Former Tenant
Pros:
Loved living here for four years. Near all of the trains, had a clean, quiet apartment.
Cons:
Sometimes difficult to pick up packages

Repairs shouldn't take months
Former Tenant
Pros:
Neighbors are kind, unit is pretty large for the city
Cons:
Where to begin? Roaches throughout, even when exterminators come, rats outside, and absolutely nothing gets fixed properly. I feel bad for the super because he's very kind, but clearly in over his head. The building is crumbling both outside and in.

1254 Union street
Former Tenant
Pros:
Apartment was recently renovated, never had problems with other tenants or neighbors
Cons:
Not the cleanest lobby, things often broken in the lobby, very loud heating
Advice to owner:
Fix the lobby

Not the worst, not the best
Former Tenant
Pros:
Incredible tenants who have come together to work on beautifying the front yard and courtyard and are involved in getting repair issues fixed.
Cons:
Repairs don’t address root causes, major issues with heat in the winter, long term Black tenants pressured to move out so the landlord can jack up the rents and gentrify the neighborhood.

Horrible landlords, affordable prices
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is conveniently located, units are well-priced and spacious, and the tenants who live here are wonderful people.
Cons:
Sadly, the building management is an absolute disaster. Landlords are totally unresponsive and do not care about you once you’ve signed a lease. There are regular issues with heat and hot water, cockroaches, leaks and plumbing issues, and even more. The street noise outside the building during the spring and summer is also unbearable.
Advice to owner:
You need to start treating your tenants like human beings.

Affordable but awful
Former Tenant
Pros:
The units are large and very well-priced. The people who live in the building are lovely. The location is convenient. The super is great.
Cons:
The building management is not responsive and couldn’t care less about tenants. The building and many apartments are in desperate need of repairs and updates. The noise from the street can get unbearably loud in street-facing units.
Advice to owner:
Please make some semblance of an effort to listen to your tenants and address their needs.

Cons:

Advice to owner:

Good location/Poor management of property
Former Tenant
Pros:
I like my neighbors and the neighborhood. Has close proximity to public transport. Good size apartment for the rent.
Cons:
Repairs and renovations in apartments aren’t done properly. Have had a lot of water leaks in my ceiling in the same place multiple times over the years. The heat hasn’t been on very much this winter and had to call 311 several times. If intercom stops working it’ll take at least 6 months to be repaired.
Advice to owner:
Repair things properly and in a timely manner. Turn on the heat when the temperature outside calls for it.

Good luck getting anything fixed!
Former Tenant
Pros:
All the units in this building are rent-stabilized - so if you’re okay with circumventing the landlord and fixing things yourself/hiring people, the low rent might be worthwhile.
Cons:
So many issues in both my unit and the building that haven’t been fixed in the 8 years that I’ve lived here - my ceiling leaks when it rains, there have been multiple pest infestations (mice, roaches, bedbugs), both sinks leak, my buzzer hasn’t worked since I moved in. There have been several cases where I’ve gotten fed up, paid for something myself and taken the cost out of my rent.
Advice to owner:
Where is all our rent money going?! If you keep adding shiny appliances to crumbling apartments so you can jack up the rent, don’t be surprised when your new affluent tenants don’t tolerate the leaks and roaches and take you to housing court.
