Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews for 66 Avenue A highlight its prime East Village location and spacious units as major pluses. Tenants appreciate features like a communal garden and in-unit amenities, but common issues include persistent pest infestations (mice, cockroaches, rats), outdated and often malfunctioning elevators, and poor garbage management. Noise levels are high due to the lively neighborhood and thin walls. Many renters report unresponsive or slow management, with inadequate maintenance and security concerns. While neighbors tend to be friendly, the building's aging infrastructure and neglect diminish overall living quality. Prospective renters should weigh location benefits against upkeep and management challenges.

Loved location but old building

Pros

-love East village location -amenities were p decent in unit and in building -they did make some improvements like adding delivery room and fobs for access

Cons

-garbage management is just putting trash in a room on the floor that would often overflow -elevator is old and sometimes not reliable -neighbors had pest issues -loud area and sometimes neighbors too

Sold the building and kicked everyone out

Pros

Tons of space, huge 2 bedroom units. Thick walls; very quiet in-between units. Elevator Amazing location

Cons

The family that owned the building for over 80 years sold it to a private equity company that gut-renovated all of the units and kicked out all of the existing tenants. Paid >$9k in a broker fee just to be told 2 months later that our lease wouldn't be renewed and we'd have to move. People who hang out at the bodega sit right on entrance step into the building. I've had to step over or around drunks guys, or one time someone actively shooting up.
