Review Summary for 155 East 34 Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews for 155 East 34 Street praise the building's friendly, helpful doormen and well-maintained common areas, highlighting laundry facilities and secure package handling. Cleanliness and garbage management are generally rated highly. The prime Manhattan location is a plus, though noise levels—especially near 34th Street and lower floors—are a frequent concern due to traffic and ongoing construction. Some tenants report persistent repairs and occasional heating issues lasting weeks without compensation. Pest control is generally satisfactory, and water pressure is strong. Responsiveness varies, with some praising management and others citing delays. While many recommend the building, noise and continuous work may impact comfort.

Pros:
The doormen and other staff that work in the building are super helpful and truly nice people. They have been incredibly helpful to me during hard times and I sincerely appreciate it.
Cons:
I was constantly left without a livable home and put in dangerous situations. The constant repairs and construction INSIDE apartments, hazardous construction dust pouring into the apartment leaving me suddenly without a home, and other dangerous construction situations/severe noise issues would suddenly uproot my life in the middle of serious life situations. At times when I was already experiencing other life crisis, I was constantly forced into the crisis of having no safe home to stay in, and forced to spend enormous amounts of money staying at hotels. Without money to spare, I was left homeless. They don't plan out construction or repairs with regard to tenants that live there. They expect you to live in inhumane and deadly circumstances and leave you to deal with the mess. They will deny the problems and will be unwilling to do the type of investigation needed that would provide the proof they want...dragging you through the mud and making things even more impossible. They don't seem to understand that real people live there with real human lives, and need to be able to depend on having a home. Not everyone can just drop their life in an instant and deal with the catastrophic circumstances they create, and not everyone has a backup apartment in the city to run to during emergencies. Not everyone can just leave town when their apartment is uninhabitable. They take their time in situations that need to be addressed immediately, and leave the mess on you. There is constant construction noise. Something is wrong with the walls. You can hear all work being done in every apartment, no matter the location, as if it is coming through your wall. If you plan on being in your apartment during the day, you cannot live here. The building is old so repairs and work will be constant and never ending. They don't think through the reality of the construction work they do, especially considering structural issues, and the potential impacts. The super believes his job is to protect the construction workers, not the residents. Everything is done at the expense of the residents. They will be allowed to do work during illegal hours. No effort to warn or coordinate things with residents. You will start asking yourself - how am I not being paid to live here? Constant chemical smells and two recent episodes of toxic smoke coming from outside that made everyone sick. I don't think the inside vents get cleaned. I could go on and on.
Advice to owner:
Have everyone leave the building, knock it down, and rebuild it. Then let people live there once it is inhabitable. Don't continue collecting rent and letting people live there when the building is just not conducive to human life and needs too much work.

Great place to start my nyc experience
Former Tenant
Pros:
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The common areas were kept nice and clean.
Cons:
Personally, I was just the floor that I was on which is a lower floor, which was very noisy. Also, scaffolding has been erected for about five years now.
