Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews for 21 West 106 Street reflect a mixed living experience. Tenants appreciate the quiet neighborhood, good water pressure, and generally quiet neighbors, with some praising quick response to maintenance requests. However, cleanliness and garbage management are recurrent issues, often described as poor and requiring improvement. Heating is inconsistent—some report insufficient heat, while others note loud radiators disrupting sleep. Pest control varies, with some residents fearing rats at night. Management and owner responsiveness receive criticism for rudeness, unresponsiveness, and rent hikes, significantly dampening tenant satisfaction. Renovations are viewed as cheap and poorly done. Overall, renters find the location decent but are wary of management practices and building upkeep.

21 W. 106th Street Review

Pros

Quiet neighborhood, the Super, Malcom is very sweet, garbage is picked up quickly, quiet neighbors

Cons

Merina from management is extremely rude to any question you may have I have never dealt with someone who gaslights harder or makes you feel worse about anything than she does. She makes living here miseerable. hot water does not last longer than 3 minutes, very high rent for apartments in the same buildings being rent stabilized.

Advice to the owners

Mixed bag, greedy rude management company

Pros

Great location. Great water pressure. Good service on appliances.

Cons

Horrible issues with leaks. Grossly insufficient heat - they are baseboards. Extremely expensive to run and does not keep the apartment warm. The management company is rude and condescending whenever you need to speak with them. They will jack up your rent significantly when renewal comes. Some neighbors are rent-controlled and suspect that many 'market rate' units in the building are in fact rent-stabilized. The trash area is disgusting.
