Review Summary for 220 West 98 Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent renters of 220 West 98 Street highlight its charming pre-war architecture, large units, and friendly, community-oriented neighbors. Many praise the dedicated superintendant and a nice neighborhood near Central and Riverside Parks. However, persistent problems with building maintenance — including frequent elevator breakdowns, outdated and dirty hallways, poor garbage management impacting odors, and inconsistent repairs — plague tenant experience. Management is frequently criticized for slow or inadequate responsiveness, minimal investment in infrastructure updates, and a tendency to raise rent despite ongoing issues. Noise levels inside vary, with some finding windows ineffective at blocking city sounds. Overall, the building appeals for location and community but falls short on upkeep and management engagement.

Lazy building management
Former Tenant
Pros:
In house building laundry
Good neighborhood
Cons:
They do not respond when you need things fixed in the apartment, yet they keep raising the rent every year. The building is also classified as “ unsafe “ and they have not sent a memo to tenants explaining why. Very discriminatory and deceptive practices that they use. I’ve been putting in a work order for the past two years to get a door handle fixed, they come, they look and say they need special parts and then go away! I live with an elderly woman who needs things around the apartment to be up to code. She doesn’t even have a grab bar in the bathroom because they won’t fix it so she can fall at any time. The elevator is almost always broken, you’re lucky if your apartment gets sufficient heat

What a shame...
Former Tenant
Pros:
It's a gorgeous pre-war buidling with large rooms, high ceilings and a phenominal building staff
Cons:
Everything seems to be broken and never gets fixed...the service elevator has been broken for years...among many of the inconveniences, one major one is that the garbage is removed using the regular elevator so we have to smell the garbage and even sometimes ride the elevator with bags of stinky garbage!
Advice to owner:
Give a shit! You have a beautiful building with lovely tenants and a staff that goes above and beyond. Fix the stuff that brakes in a timely manner!
