Terrible Management, beautiful building
Former Tenant
Pros:
- location is great - apartments are beautiful
Cons:
- super is a jerk and doesn't do anything - many amenities were taken away during my first 6 months (like bike storage) - the management company (EM Holding) is toxic and gaslights their tenants
Advice to owner:
Get a new management company they will drive your building into the ground. EM Holding will increase your exposure to litigation and cheap everything out until you need to do massive renovations. Do everything in your power to start your own management company for your beautiful buildings.

Property Managers and Owner are inflexible and nasty
Former Tenant
Pros:
The street is cute and the neighbors on the block are kind. But there are other apartments on this block. Live in one of those.
Cons:
The property management company does not email, you can only call or write letters and they won't respond. Every time I've spoken with the property managers, I'm bracing for at a minimum, an irritated response but have been yelled at when I pushed back on an issue we needed addressed. When we were first moving in, for some reason the apartment number for our place wasn't listed with Con-Ed so I called them to ask if they had any idea what the right # would be. They said they had no idea and just gave me the previous tenant's full name and contact info and told me to contact him (we didn't, that felt super inappropriate). We also cannot understand the heating. At the beginning of winter, it was 66-68 all the time, then the heat was on and it was 80 all the time, lately it's freezing at night (around 67) and hot (around 80) during the day which is the least terrible? Hot water is also unreliable.
Advice to owner:
Sell the building if you don't want to take care of it, or hire a new management company that does actual work/treats tenants like people?

Unresponsive
Former Tenant
Pros:
I think it’s cute and the neighbors are nice
Cons:
Management and owners never respond. You have to incessantly communicate with them in archaic ways just to get a little action. Super keeps the place nice and clean but if you have a bigger issue, you need management/ owner help and you’re basically screwed. Also, hilariously, they will not give out an email address. You need to call and speak to a receptionist, hope to hear from the landlord, and then PRAY FOR A MIRACLE to hear from the owner. Oh but they kindly allow you to write them a letter. To which they never respond... it’s an evil joke.
Advice to owner:
Well what do you think my advice would be? Respond to your tenants when there is a major issue.
