harassing landlord
Former Tenant
Pros:
The location is good, close to subway lines, good food and park.
Cons:
Landlord/ management company started harassing us after we decided not to renew the lease. They gave our phone numbers to multiple agent (without our consent) to coordinate showings to potential new tenants. At first we were being nice and coordinated the showing to the best we could, responding to texts, arranging time, made videos, etc. but it started becoming overwhelming. We received 4-5 text messages from total strangers to ask us when are we available for showings. I sent out emails to her to ask her to stop releasing our information. That’s when it started getting crazy. She used the security deposit to threaten us to coordinate showing, and I quote “ As per the lease; tenants are required to show the apartment to potential renters. In order for us to return you security deposit, all terms of the lease must be met.” She threatened us two more times via email and called me during work time when we didn’t fulfilled her expectations. I look into the lease, there is a term that tenants should provide availability when landlord gave a 24 hours notice in advance, which we could have accepted. But she didn’t give notice for showing whatsoever, they just posted our phone numbers to more than 20 agents, and expected us to figure it out. Basically using us as her assistant. It was a stressful two months, I had to move our 2 weeks earlier so I don’t have to deal with that shit. And then it’s the hustle with deposit. We spent hours cleaning up the night we moved out and made video as proof. She decided to deduct almost 300 bucks because they did a “deep cleaning” i told her if she insisted that’s necessary, I will have to take her to small claim court. And then guess what, she agreed to return the full amount. Interactions with her in that three months took a toll on my mental health. I burst out crying at work dealing with those messages while worrying about the deposit. They did not respect tenants’ rights once they were no longer “useful” to them. I wouldn’t wish it happened to anyone. But if you decided to live there, I encouraged you to know your rights as a tenant and stand up to the bully.
Advice to owner:

Overall a good place to live
Former Tenant
Pros:
Brand new so the features and finishes are nice and the units themselves are very clean- I have literally never seen a bug of any kind. The super is great and the landlord is generally pretty quickly responsive.
Cons:
Trash management and keeping the building stairwell clean could be better and there were a few instances where snow never got shoveled which they were eventually ticketed for. Pretty small complaints in the grand scheme of things.
Advice to owner:
Just be more active with keeping the outside and stairwell clean. Everything else is great!
