Not the worst but a lot of issues

Pros:
2 blocks from train station, near some of the cute restaurants here, landlord is decently responsive, central AC, basement available for storage / as studio space (I am on the ground floor), small cute backyard for bbq, working washer dryer in basement
Cons:
I live on the ground floor, my window faces the street. This should not be a bedroom

Noise

Can hear every single word / step on the street outside my bedroom window, late night street racing, etc. Can also hear what happens from the opening of the front door through the hallway and up the stairs. Have been woken up multiple times from this.

Pests

The building next to us had a roach infestation that is overflowing into our apartment. Exterminator comes but it helps minimally. I can count on seeing 1-3 roaches daily. Potential rat problem in the basement laundry area. Neighbors apparently had a worse roach problem when moving in that the landlord did not help with.

Cleanliness

I’ve come back many times to see the same dirt for several days in a row, or from a friend’s place to notice the place smells like toilet water or wet cardboard. I sometimes see cleaners here but they should come more often.

Security

Security is lax. I asked for bars on my windows (I live on the ground floor, my window faces the street, I don’t open the blinds for this reason). Landlord refused though its easy to come in. Augmented by the fact that the security cameras will often not work and the door is frequently left open because it can be hard to close.

Oven doesn’t work well. No daylight in the living space.
Advice to owner:
Invest serious time into cleaning up the place and making it safer. Hallway should be deep cleaned daily. And possibly needs the pipe changed. Change the door so it’s easy to close. Replace the oven(s). Make the laundry area in the basement safer and more useable.

Awful place to live

Pros:
The building had central air and heat and was renovated in 2015
Cons:
Rats lived in the walls. Despite the recent renovation the building was filthy. It was gross when I moved in and then management had the audacity to deduct a cleaning fee when I moved out. Way too expensive for what it is. They have laundry in the basement you have to pay for and the machines never worked. Constant issues with management throughout my tenancy. Stuff was always breaking and never getting fixed
