Management is awful.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Neighbors are awesome!
Cons:
Tonight the entirety of the first floor apartments flooded. Hurricane Ida created a bad storm in NYC. Everyone was aware of this leading up to this night. Multiple apartments on this floor have had issues with flooding in the past- one in particular has has five incidents in the 18months they have lived in this building. Management has accepted people’s ruined furniture from flooding in the past leading up to tonight and has previously made numerous promises to ensure this doesn’t happen. Tonight all first floor apartments were flooded with sewage. It came spewing out of toilets, bathtubs, and sinks. Some of the apartments on this floor have a downstairs portion located in the basement on the same level as the storage lockers. People’s basements were completely flooded up to the ceiling and were seeping onto the main floor. Basement doors had water ruching into the storage area from underneath them and doors had to be opened to release water pressure. The main floors were all flooded stemming from the bathroom, whether you had a basement or not. There was poop and water everywhere. The absolute worst part of all of this is that every single member of management shut off their phones so not a single person in the building could get through to them. They abandoned their entire building. They also are the policy holders of everyone’s renters insurance so we had no access to be able to contact our insurance companies to do anything to mitigate the situation. My heart is absolutely broken for all of my neighbors tonight. Their things and homes were completely destroyed and management made sure they had no one to turn to for guidance or help. I am proud of my neighbors for all coming together and using buckets, trash cans, everything we could to help one another and get what water we could out. One neighbor even wasn’t home and so all the neighbors found ways to contact him so he had some time to get home and save what he could. Management should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. There is a stipulation in the renters insurance that apparently states it does not cover flooding. But management knew of the issue way ahead of time to be able to correct it, chose not to, and then abandoned its renters. I only have video right now of the beginning of the flooding and an apartment with no basement.
Advice to owner:
Need new management because they are terrified of responsibility and are harmful to their renters.
