Bed bug breeding grounds
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice courtyard entrance
Cons:
It was very dirty. The stairways were always littered with cigarette butts, and it was never cleaned up properly. I lived in 2 different units because there was a bedbug infestation in the unit below me, and I kept getting the residuals of the infestation in my unit through the outlets and cracks in the floors and walls. When I moved to another unit in the complex, (due to my financial situation I could not leave the building) another tenant that was diagonally below mine had an infestation too, and the building didn’t disclose that to me when I moved into that unit. It was absolutely insane. I get that bedbugs happen, but the management company WAS HORRIBLE to communicate with.
Advice to owner:
Be more vigilant when it comes to upkeep of the common areas, and Making sure to keep tenants accountable for their contributions to the filth of the building.

Dirty Neighborhood and building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Heat was GREAT.
Cons:
Building is very dirty and unkept. Neighborhood is loud. I was also harassed by a neighbor. The landlord worked with me to find a new location. The Super was aware of problematic behaviors by this neighbor (apparently the police were called on him before) and nothing has been done to remove him from the property.
Advice to owner:
Clean this proprerty!

You get what you pay for
Former Tenant
Pros:
Rent stabilized apartment, great location (in the heart of bushwick very close to bars, restaurants, grocery, laundry, subways, etc).
Cons:
Management is extremely unresponsive. Had a huge issue with my next door neighbors blasting music at insane hours, notified management and withheld rent for months - never heard a peep from them, and there was no change. My toilet once stopped working at around 4:30pm, called the super who refused to come look at it because it was almost 5pm. Called the super for multiple other issues in the 2 years i lived here — ceiling in the bathroom falling in, broken tiles, etc. issues were not fixed. Neighbors are loud and blast music at all hour of the night (will blast music starting at 5:30 am on a Sunday, play it ALL DAY and through the entire night. Impossible to get any sleep around here). Outside area is poorly maintained, trash, broken bottles, cigarette butts. Rats all around the building. My first floor apartment has an awful roach problem that resists exterminators. Worst part is getting ignored. Even if I have a basic question about the lease, the office will ignore all calls, messages, emails for a couple of weeks before i get any sort of response.
Advice to owner:
Get your shit together.

Good price for apartment in Bushwick
Former Tenant
Pros:
Heat is included, 2 bedroom setup is nice, kitchen is large, lots of closets, felt safe inside the building
Cons:
Occasional mice, neighbors are loud, building facilities (staircase etc. are often not clean)
Advice to owner:
Property owners aren’t exactly responsive when there is an issue

Jump starter apartment
Former Tenant
Pros:
Pre war. Neighbors are friendly and tend to keep to themselves.
Cons:
Have to provide your own window screens. Can easily hear neighbors through the walls BUT it’s not distracting especially if you have friends over/listening to music/watching tv/cooking/etc. I’m front of building and close to trash there’s mice/rats (but hey, NYC right?)

Dirty and Noisy
Former Tenant
Pros:
My apt had been renovated so everything was in working condition. They did a terrible job painting, using super thin paint and splashing it all over the floors so your floors always look a little dusty.
Cons:
It is so dirty. The entrance is NEVER clean and smells like a subway at times. The neighbors are loud and like to hang out by the entrance in warm weather, later leaving all their garbage everywhere. There’s one loud obnoxious one that has lived here forever and smokes weed and puts on music super loud after midnight. Property company is barely communicative.
Advice to owner:
If you want to charge outrageous prices, get better managers for your buildings. These buildings are often dirty, have faulty doors that may or may not work to let others in and the super, altho nice enough, barely does much. Enforce rules to keep the buildings and courtyards clean at bare minimum.

Don’t do it.
Former Tenant
Pros:
“Affordable” rent but not worth you peace of mind.
Cons:
Useless superintendent. Horrible and unresponsive management company. Building looks like a dump yard and neighbors are the most noisy neighbors in all Bushwick. Don’t do it.
Advice to owner:
Implode the building and redo it with new neighbors included.

Not the best, but neighbors are friendly
Former Tenant
Pros:
Friendly neighbors & close to grocery stores
Cons:
Terrible super who will never do anything, let alone answer your texts or calls. I have consistently tried to tell the super to get the maintenance person to clean the stairs and it's been over a month. The stairs are literally sticky and filthy yet no one comes to clean it. The pest control is so terrible, I found a rat jumping up and down in my bathtub one night during January.
Advice to owner:
Actually taking care of the building would be nice.
