Building Report
Review Summary for 1563 Dekalb Avenue
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews for 1563 Dekalb Avenue in Brooklyn highlight major concerns. Renters have expressed disappointment with the high rent prices compared to the building's condition, including roach and rodent issues. The management's unresponsiveness to maintenance requests and emergencies, such as lack of hot water for weeks, has been a prevalent issue. Despite some positive aspects like proximity to amenities and nice units, the consensus leans towards dissatisfaction with the landlords' lack of communication, inadequate pest control, and overall building upkeep. Recommendations include improving communication, cleanliness, and addressing maintenance promptly for a better tenant experience.

I don't understand how they can justify the rent prices
Former Tenant
Pros:
Stores and laundry nearby, close to the train
Cons:
So many roaches, occasional mice. Downstairs neighbors always had door open and were cooking, often had screaming matches. Building is across the street from a late night, busy bar and there was always insane noise from people getting into fights outside. Landlord raised the rent from 2800 which was already too much for the condition of the unit to 3800 which caused us to vacate.
Advice to owner:
if you're charging nearly 4K for a tiny unit, make sure the cabinets are intact and there aren't roaches on the stairs. Talk to your other tenants and maybe do a welfare check

Nice Units, Terrible Management
Former Tenant
Pros:
Most of the units have central ac/heat and nice windows throughout the space. I didn’t have problems with packages being stolen or any serious noise issues from the neighbors.
Cons:
Management company is impossible to reach. The super’s number is out of service and the leasing company can never get ahold of them either. Their emergency line never picks up. You don’t get a reply when submitting a maintenance ticket. We had a serious leak that went unfixed for weeks. In the winter we went 2 weeks without hot water with no response from the landlords. Only got it fixed by calling 311.
Advice to owner:
Have a phone number that works.

Horrible Landlords
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice light in the apartment.
Cons:
Horrible landlords that never reply to questions or concerns, rodent issues, unclean lobby, landlords lying about pricing and other building issues. Would avoid this building and seek a place with more responsive landlords and building manager. Bad insulation in windows and walls for outside. Rooms get very cold in winter.
Advice to owner:
Clean the building more, respond to tenant questions, be nicer, make building improvements, clean the backyard.
