1 year at 25 Stanhope
Former Tenant
Pros:
This was our first apartment in NY, so we moved in sight unseen (had a friend look for us though.) Overall the apartment itself was clean and maintained, and the area was great.
Cons:
-The management changed legit 4x over the year, so we were changing payment platforms, management protocol, supers, etc. all the time. Management was so unresponsive, it was almost criminal. For example, our AC broke in November and we couldn't get it fixed until June. We had to threaten legal action to get management to approve an electrician's project cost to fix it. -The building was filled with 20-somethings who leave the place a mess. Very gen z energy in here. -Majorly overpriced. We paid 3600 for a 3 br, which was technically 2 bedrooms plus an office that they threw an ikea dresser in as a closet to "legally" call it a 3br. Management raised the rent, so we moved out. Overall, would avoid renting from Freestone Property Group for these reasons, plus the way they generally handle tenants.
Advice to owner:
get your s*** together.

Management wasn't great at communicating
Former Tenant
Pros:
At the time we moved in (2014), it was a brand new building with brand new appliances. It was great having central air and heat. The apartment was super bright and we really didn't have much trouble.
Cons:
There was a break-in on the 2nd floor and sometimes, our door bell would ring and we could see a man outside the door hiding away from the door camera. In our apartment, the paint was chipping away right by the air vent. I brought it up with management and they didn't do much about it. So paint would just drop onto the floor. When I was trying to sublease my bedroom, I felt like I was being hustled because out of the blue they made a new rule that I would need to pay $300 to get out of my lease. Even though I found someone to replace me and they never not once mentioned this to me before. I will say that they did waive it. Also the laundry room had one washer and dryer, they never worked properly.
Advice to owner:
I understand that it is hard to maintain property, but leaks happens and should be repaired right away so they don't cause more damage

Building is old and repairs and just bandaids
Former Tenant
Pros:
The kitchen cabinets are cute
Cons:
No storage, many things were renovated sloppy, sooooo many leaks they don’t know how to properly fix, electrical wiring for sockets are poor and weak.
Advice to owner:
Do better figure out the source of problems.

Piss Poor Management
Former Tenant
Pros:
Cathedral level ceilings on first floor. Nice bathroom appliances. Noise level low Accessible rooftop
Cons:
Smoke alarms connected to another building so they go off at all hours of the night and you can’t reach them without a 15ft ladder. Piercing loud. Oven broken beyond repair, owner refuses to fix. Carbon monoxide leak in the basement. Digital keypad to get into building does not work if the power goes out- you will be locked outside with no way in. Owner refused to pay locksmith fee during a snowstorm. Washer and dryer very sub par and only work half the time. “Outdoor patio” completely inaccessible as it is locked with a padlock. Owner unresponsive on weekends. Takes several tries to get anyone to come to the building.
Advice to owner:
Take better care of your tenants. Your building is unusable on the first floor. Fix your smoke alarms.
