Deceptive, Lazy Owners & Bldg Management
Former Tenant
Pros:
Kind neighbors who have lived in the building for decades, but whom the building owners are trying to illegally evict to clear out units, force more bedrooms per apartment, and hike up the rent exponentially.
Cons:
The building owners for this building and 295 Maple St (across the street) are just downright evil people. They have in recent years used LLCs to obscure who actually owns this property and what other real estate they must be ruining across the city/LI. When my partner and I moved into the building 2 years ago, they were forcefully evicting a fireman with disabled children because they claimed he had inappropriately moved into the apartment after his parents raised him in that apartment. They also increased the rent for everyone who doesn’t have a newer unit using a made-up NY law called “MCI,” they justified the monthly increase in rent because they finally performed bare minimum elevator and boiler maintenance. We have dealt with ants and roaches regularly in the summer, and heat/gas issues in the winter. The gas for the whole building was cut off for months during the beginning of the pandemic. Very little effort is made to maintain common spaces. The super will not fix anything in your apartment unless you have reminded him in person more than 3x or more than likely you have to call 311 to get anything done.
Advice to owner:
Shame on you.
