Good management good people
Pros
Bought a co-op in 2006. This is a simple building without a lot of frills but well managed. Management company changed this year after 40 years and so we are settling into the new relationship. They seem responsive. New super is young and absolutely amazing. The long time prior super passed away. Union super and porter. The Board is pretty incredible, putting their full effort and a lot of skills and background in finance and real estate to work. I'm on the board which I do now and then; my colleagues are real pros. lots of good and fiscally responsible improvements. They built storage units, bike storage, floor by floor thermostats to better control heat and save money, new elevators in 2008, and they are putting in updated water piping with new pumps to make sure water pressure on the top floor is high enough. Kept clean and the neighbors are very nice but there is a long-term switching from long time renters to new whiter and wealthier buyers = a change of culture. Not bad but different. New mailboxes are lovely and we now have a package room. Laundry in the building is about to be renewed in Fall 2026. We sold air rights to a neighboring building and got $1M which is helping tackle long-term needs like painting the fire escapes, roof repair, renovating the front garden, etc.
Cons
It has a very nice architecture but it's not what you would call a luxury building. Getting more so though. Built in 1935 so all the issues with old buildings including occasional water issues cracked plaster etc. But I'd like living here and management and board is responsive and follows up with every issue.
Great Start Rental
Pros
I lived here years ago. At the time, it was: - spacious - clean - well maintained - great area (walking distance to many types of shops and stores and this is still the case!)
Cons
There was nothing that I didn’t like!
Advice to the owners
Continue keeping it clean, organized and secure. It’s great!
