Overall a good experience, with some negative highlights
Pros
It was a small building—only 6 units, I believe, and there was rooftop access, which was nice. The laundry in the building, as well as extra storage space in the basement was also a plus
Cons
There was something weird going on with the keys/apt door locks. Apparently we each had the same exact key/lock, which meant we could open each other’s apartments. That felt like a potentially dangerous situation. The landlords contrived a bs reason to refused to return my deposit to me, even though I left the apt in good shape
NEGLECTED BUILDING—NEGLECTFUL LANDLORD
Pros
Central air/central heat
Cons
No response from landlord re: leaking ceiling. Water bugs everywhere because of lazy plumbing. Dealt with a squatting screaming tenant on the second floor (now evicted). Filthy basement with mold: there is a HOLE IN THE FOUNDATION OF THIS BUILDING THAT IS A STORM DRAIN TO OUTSIDE. Despicable
Advice to the owners
Don’t become a landlord if you can’t handle the responsibility. Flipping pre-war buildings with the cheapest possible materials to make a quick buck is disgusting. Answer your god damned phone. TAKE CARE OF YOUR BUILDING.
