Review Summary for 991 Willoughby Avenue
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews for 991 Willoughby Avenue highlight a well-lit, clean building with spacious units, great balconies, and a rooftop offering Manhattan views. Tenants appreciate its convenient location near transit and amenities, pet-friendliness, and friendly, responsive management, especially staff like Dave. However, recurrent elevator breakdowns without timely communication frustrate residents. Heating units are often described as noisy, inconsistent, or bulky, and some mention occasional noise from neighbors or street. Pest control is generally good but could benefit from more proactive prevention. Overall, the building suits renters valuing location and management responsiveness but requires improvements in maintenance communication and elevator reliability.

Once a Nice Building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Great views and very well lit. Convenient area to live in. Nice wooden floors and big windows. Great balconies.
Cons:
This building was great when I first moved. But now there are issues such as problematic heating units which you are expected to clean monthly and even then they will not turn on consistently on cold days. In addition, the elevator is constantly breaking down and management is not very communicative to tenants about when the elevator will be fixed. This can go for from a few days to a few weeks.
Also the first repair man was absolutely exceptional but the new one I don’t even bother with because of the excuses, delays, and multiple emails.
Advice to owner:
Management can be on top of things regarding elevator repairs. If they would update tenants they could plan ahead to either not be home or be away while the elevator is fixed. Seems like management has lost interest in this building as they’ve expanded to other areas.

Great place to live
Former Tenant
Pros:
Very clean, friendly and responsive management.
Cons:
Could be more proactive about extermination… management was very responsive when I notified them about a cockroach issue, but I think preventative measures could have been taken
Noticed some a cigarette/weed smoke smell after there was some tenant changes. It sometimes seeps into my unit unfortunately and the smell is frequently present in the hallways, but I don’t know how to address the issue.
