Review Summary for 123 Hope Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews for 123 Hope Street in Brooklyn reflect a mix of positive and negative experiences. Tenants commend the building's cleanliness, friendly neighbors, and responsive management team, especially the super and doormen, contributing to a well-kept environment. The building’s location near transit and amenities is appreciated, though proximity to a busy highway and ongoing construction cause noise issues. Concerns include intermittent elevator outages, problematic magnetic lock systems causing lockouts, strict noise policies, and occasional maintenance delays. Some express dissatisfaction with management’s handling of tenant concerns and rising rents. Despite drawbacks, many find the building suitable for those valuing cleanliness, safety, and community.

Great Spot Overall
Former Tenant
Pros:
Management is responsive and super fixes this quickly. Building is clean and neighbors friendly
Cons:
One of the 2 elevators was down for nearly 6 months, but has been working consistently since. Water pressure in the shower is a bit wonky

Used to be a good building until 2024
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is clean in a great location with gorgeous rooftop views; inhabited mostly by rich middle-age hipsters or whoever can afford living for such high rent.
Cons:
In mid-2024 the management decided to install magnetic locks to all residents units' doors, main entrance, gym, rooftop and basically all doors. Ever since the nightmare started with people being locked out of their apartments because of the magnetic lock's battery dying in the most unexpected times (for some people even after recent battery replacement). The 24/7 phone helpline service doesn't really respond or help and directs everyone to the costly locksmith services (around $500 for unscrewing a couple of screws to open the door) if one lucky to have available technician. There are a couple of stories now of residents being locked out in the middle of the nights and forced to spend a night out of their units while waiting for some sort of help. The nice and adequate super was fired in summer of 2024 and replaced by some shady guy, who has difficulties with clear communication.
Overall, the building's management demonstrates a very nonchalant attitude to the continuous issues with the locks, broken elevators and stolen deliveries, while charging additional money for every piece of amenity (rooftop and lounge room) that are already part of the rent (!) and micromanages every step of the tenants "thanks" to ubiquitous cameras.
Advice to owner:
Pay more attention to resident's problems
