There are better options
Pros
At one point we had a leak in our ceiling, and the super showed up and took care of it fairly quickly.
Cons
The management company refuses to put money into the building. The elevator is frequently broken, stranding older residents on the top floors for days — the max it was OOO was around 10 days, and it broke about a dozen times when I lived there. The super is nice but not always quick to get back to you. The management company is much worse — we had to contact them constantly to get a response about move out. The exterminator comes twice a month but doesn’t do much. We got roaches twice in two years and a mouse once. The building is poorly maintained enough that they’re sure to get in. Also, be sure to check if it’s a rent stabilized unit before you rent. They’re engaged in a lawsuit with a number of tenants for rent increases on stabilized units.
Advice to the owners
Fix the elevator, put some actual money into the building
Better be handy if you want a functioning apartment
Pros
Great location, friendly tenants
Cons
Requests for repairs to the super are often met with a chuckle, when asked to fix leaky faucets - (literally all 3 leak, kitchen, bathroom sink and tub) we are told to “just tighten them harder.” Roaches are a serious problem despite regular exterminator visits. Takes multiple calls to the management company to get responses on anything.
