Poorly taken care of building, horrible MGNE & useless Board Members.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Some apts are spacious, large open lobby, close to buses and Main St.
Cons:
There are quite a few issues: Lobby is filled with kids playing on the floors, screaming, jump-roping or old men sitting around in there PJ's. We have serious mail theft, and no cameras anywhere. Hallway walls and other public areas are filthy and are NEVER cleaned or wiped down (nothing changed during COVID). No-Dog home, yet people own dogs. Laundry rooms are always nasty, never cleaned and if the machine eats your money or breaks your on your own. Board members are a joke. We have had meeting where the members speak in ONLY Chinese/ Mandarin which is extremely unprofessional and rude to non-mandarin speakers to say the least. We also have NO idea who the members actually are, there are no names/lists anywhere, no phone numbers and one email that someone who never signs his/her name answers in single word replies (if your lucky). Most buildings have a directory of who is who, names, emails, phone numbers at least a FB page, but no, here they made a Whatsapp so the everyone can write in Mandarin. Its useless reaching out with concerns and no one follows up via email. The MGNE Company which is new thanks to the Board members as of 2020 called Murray Hill Management Company is the worst thing that has happened to this building. The 4 people that work in that office are so rude and will hang up the phone on you no problem. (which by the way this is the first time I've ever experienced a professional business hanging up the phone because they didn't know how to respond to a concern). They NEVER respond to emails and claim they get too many emails to reply. They put you on hold for 30min at a time and get back to you with no answer. I thought I have heard of bad MGNE but wow this one cuts the cake. The "main" guy Tony( who's last name we don't know) is unprofessional - speaking in a completely undermining and rude disrespectful manner. He also has the audacity to blame neighbors for issues that are clearly within the building - things that have nothing to do with anyone besides the age of the property itself. A few times I have called the office and was told he was in "court" meanwhile I could hear his voice in the background. Unfortunately this management company is not capable of handling any kind of issues, they also claim to have 3 other buildings that are all the same number (144-30) so conveniently they don't seem to remember who you are, which building you're from and why you're calling every single time even if its within hours of your call. While they promised to make things better within the past year no changes have been made besides the installation of one camera at the front door which according to Tony nobody watches/monitors. There are no rules or regulations or anyone around that would even make sure that things go properly. A lot of people may have disliked our previous management company that owns the building but at least things were orderly and they were responsive, as opposed to the current management company that can care less about any concerns. In addition to that there are issues with multiple families living in one bedroom apartments here as the owner sublets it illegally. ( apparently no one can do anything about it but it's making the building more dirty and lowering the property value drastically) Another issue are fire concerned because there is trash and old furniture built-up all over the building blocking fire escapes/exits and there are also a lot of issues with people hoarding junk in the garage around cars like paper and containers of liquid which is a fire hazard. Also nothing in the building is maintained, for instance there used to be flowers planted in the front of the building to keep it looking nice but at this point we are the only building in the area that does not take care of its property and really stands out like a sore thumb as opposed to surrounding buildings. All we have now are dead dried bushes and brown grass.
Advice to owner:
Be responsive to tenants of the building, we are the ones paying you. Get a team out here to help restore things. This building clearly needs someone who is willing to invest time to correct all of the issues that have been long left untaken care of. The building is in actuality a very nice building and yet the lack of maintenance and lack of support from management has made it deteriorate but also the unenthusiastic board members do not help the situation, it's very unfortunate but the people residing in this building should take action to improve and not treat the building like a dirty garage.
