Un responsive property management hurts what could be an absolute treasure.
Pros
Beautiful neighborhood, close to public transit and highway access, in building washer and dryer, quirky and cool architecture, family owned so the rent is reasonable. Great upstairs neighbors when we lived there, pet friendly when we were there.
Cons
Property management company is a pain to get a hold of for basic repairs or questions, property management company is neglectful of exterior maintenance, neighborhood went from young and working class families who would wave to each other in the street to insular yuppies and spoiled college kids who look at each other with distain on the rare occasion they are outside, once had beautiful views and even some open space but has become over developed with new cheap condos, no landscaping maintenance to speak of, what should be enough space for a large backyard AND parking is just a giant paved lot that is unnecessary for a two unit building and this makes it the only house in the neighborhood without a back or front yard to speak of, there is a injury rehabilitation center for the elderly nextdoor that makes its employees park on the street which makes it hard to find street parking for visitors occasionally and also means a decent number of ambulances come through with there lights on for non emergencies and that can be a bit disconcerting at first, no communication or interaction with the owner, very narrow two way street with no room to pass cars coming in the opposite direction, no train access, no decent walkable shops or restaurants, no parks or natural spaces on the entire hill (though there is a nice soccer-field/playground a few blocks away, no supermarket or grocery nearby.
Advice to the owners
Either get a new property management company or make the one you employ do their job and maintain the whole property including the landscaping, rip up at least half of the parking lot and make a yard or build a mini house or something that actually puts that space to good use, have the abandoned car that has been behind it for years towed away,
