Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants renting from Dominic Casamento report significant issues with building maintenance, cleanliness, and pest control, often describing properties as poorly managed and unclean. Many complain about unresponsive or slow management, with some mentioning security deposit disputes and rent increases. Heating and insulation problems are frequent, along with recurring issues like package theft and broken locks. While neighbors and location in Astoria and surrounding areas are generally praised, tenant satisfaction with management is low overall. A few buildings have responsive management and good community feel, but tenants advise the landlord to improve communication, maintenance quality, and tenant relations to enhance living conditions.

Property is poorly maintained

Pros

Astoria is wonderful, great area

Cons

Buildings and apartments are poorly maintained, and any work completed is done as cheaply as possible. There is no is insulation in the building, drafty and very cold. Front door lock will break and will stay broken for months on end. Tennant pays for heat and hot water.

Great location, great neighbors, terrible building and management

Pros

Location is wonderful, close to great shops and train. The neighbors in the building are wonderful. Noise is minimal and everyone is friendly.

Cons

Management is rude, unresponsive, and sneaky. Called us names over email before we even signed a lease. Maintenance is poor if you even get it, I often would have to call multiple times over months to get 1 response. When fixed, it was often a band-aid and the issue would return. We often went stretches without heat or hot water, or sometimes any water at all. We were rarely notified when scheduled work affected these things. Frequent theft, both of package and property, from the lobby. Upon move out, a large portion of our security deposit was withheld without sound cause. They raised the rent $1000/mo after we left.
