Slumlord - DO NOT RENT!
Former Tenant
Pros:
Our apartment space is excellent. Rooms are all fairly sizable, kitchen/living room combo is great. We have a private outdoor patio / backyard which is awesome for hosting parties. This is what suckered us in.
Cons:
Things were bad from the first moment. We arrived on the day we had told the landlord (multiple times) that we'd be moving in only to find the apartment in the middle of being turned / painted. They quickly finished painting, but never actually fully cleaned the unit. This led to the next issue: a constant German roach problem in the kitchen (which bled into the upstairs bathroom). Multiple visits from the exterminator and countless roach traps did not solve the problem. Finally, and worst of all: starting in November, heat, cooking gas, and hot water service ceased after a gas leak was discovered. While the hot water was restored in roughly 1.5 weeks, the heat and cooking gas remained offline for FOUR MONTHS. We discovered the cause of this delay was landlord's FAILURE TO PAY CONEDISON. In other words, landlord skimped on their bills to the utility, causing the utility to wait to fix our gas leak until after they were paid. Management denied this (despite our confirming directly with ConEdison that this was the case) and tried to force us to pay rent we lawfully withheld, threatening legal action and constantly harassing us over email. Management never once explained the delay nor apologized, and they only offered a concession after we called them on their threat to go to court and told them we had a lawyer of our own. Long story short: the landlord / management is a modern day slumlord, and you should not rent from them.
Advice to owner:
Get out of the rental business and find god
