Add soundproofing to all units.

Construction, chaos & a charcuterie board of drugs...
Former Tenant
Pros:
The bathroom is nice, washer/dryer in unit (it’s LOUD AF), control of heat/ac (you pay for it), high ceilings (will need a ladder to tend to smoke alarms)
Cons:
I’ll preface this with the fact that I’m an 80’s baby from New York— I’ve seen some thangs... Guess I can add this experience to the list. Where to begin...

Three weeks after I moved in, construction for a HOTEL started. Five years later, the saga continues. Of course, my unit was riddled with a mouse infestation. Of course, the management company did little to nothing to mitigate the issue. Threw some glue traps at me and chucked the deuces up. After months of emails and mouse droppings on my BED, they finally install a proper stop to the front door and patched up holes that I previously mentioned to them when I moved in. Keep in mind this was a “new development”. Structurally, it could be better: there’s no soundproofing (you’ll hear all of your neighbors, especially if they’re loud, more on that below), cheap materials that look good, leaky appliances (fridge has been an issue since I moved in, AC unit will leak from time to time and there’s considerable water damage on the ceiling (all of these issues have been brought to MGMT and... radio silence). I’ve tried my best to keep it all together but I am not a contractor or electrician. Also, I’ve been trying to gain access to my meters since I moved in to avoid estimated costs. Not only don’t I have access to the meters, I’m being charged for my neighbors usage (I’m a single occupant; neighbors live in a DUPLEX). So now, I have to stay on the phone with Con-Ed constantly to try to rectify this when all of this could be alleviated from the beginning. Thx MGMT

Next, the construction workers next door— using my private entrance/steps as their personal break/smoke room and drive way. They had their cars/trucks parked on my steps; I couldn’t even open my front door to leave! I’ve had to get their cars towed many a times— just so I can get to work! The security lights pointed directly in the bedroom will ensure it looks like Christmas time at Rockefeller Center ALL NIGHT.

Now the neighbors............. whew. I guess I should’ve know something was up when one unit threw their mattresses and box springs off their balcony into the neighboring construction site! If you are considering moving here, ask if they get some kind of tax break if they offer units to use as a halfway house or are part of a re-entry program. And honestly, I don’t even want to offend the formerly incarcerated folks acclimating to life on the outside by saying that. Just make sure you know what’s going on before you sign on the line.

I’ve had the displeasure of living next door to two sets of lunatics. First ones: The constant verbal and physical fights, the banging/screaming. I shouldn’t be able to clearly make out someone being accused of having syphilis and lamenting about sucking their partner’s penis. One fight got so bad, one of assailants jumped onto my balcony, into the construction site to evade the cops. Management ensured everyone that the next tenants would be much better. I guess they meant much WORSE. The day the new tenants moved in, they were trespassing on my balcony, looking through my bedroom door, trying to steal my bike at 5am. Since then, it’s been a steady stream of bullsh*t and f*ckery: addicts outside the building/coming in & out, wild parties, loud music, the most pungent and toxic/chemical smells (spent over $1,200 on air purification units/filters that run 24/7), the psychotic behavior, banging on the walls/floor— a makeshift brothel/trap house. Think National Lampoon’s Animal House meets HBO’s Euphoria but less chic & glam (more Kurt Cobain/Courtney Love/Garbage Pail Kids). In addition to being junkies/dealers, I’m pretty sure they’re also professional noise artists. They run a 24 hour operation: 1st, 2nd and graveyard shifts of never ending noise. Move here if you don’t want to get any sleep. I’m sure I have developed some kind of PTSD because of all the banging. I’m not sure what they have against the wall we share but Jesus, it has taken a BEATING. They slam doors so hard it rattles my dishes and damn near shattered my floor mirror.

For people who smoke so much weed, they are always so angry and violent. I thought weed made you super chill? Who curses out the national grid tech responding to a maintenance call? Wild. Maybe you’ll see a green haired evil demon garden gnome painting yellow squares on the sidewalk and hear her scream and yell about God knows what, in her best blaccent or drop the n-word. Or hear someone snorting... something at 7:30am everyday or hear someone rolling around on the floor, screaming at 3am or hear someone having a psychotic break or come down off a drug bender or hear people f*cking on a shared wall or hear women getting beat up and choked OUT or maybe you’ll step over their trash that never seems to find its way to the receptacle or hear objects falling, dropping or thrown about the unit at anytime or hear the most incessant stomping. Up and down the stairs. In cinderblock shoes. Maybe it’s their way of working through the copious amount of drugs in their system. One of the current occupants (there’s been so many) is a little Bill Cosby in the making. These poor girls and their pelvises. Maybe they’ve worked out an arrangement: violent sex for drugs. It’s just giving “I have to be extremely high in order to get through this pelvic shattering ordeal.” It literally sounds like the construction site to my right. Maybe he’s a pimp? But now you can add domestic abuser to lil’ Bill Cosby Yatchy’s resume. 3am, 4am, 5am, 6am always sounds like a great time to fight and argue. I say all this to say that I’m not looking for perfection; it’s New York. But this sh*t is absolutely ridiculous.

These people can’t be reasoned with. I’ve tried to be polite and extend an olive branch early on, even after they tried to steal my bike. All they will choose is violence. They’ve threatened me (ONLY through the walls though LOL), said they’re going to get some guys to jump me. Because I’d like to sleep for more than 4 hours and not be subjected to their manic soap opera. Just unhinged psychopaths and heathens with unresolved traumas and drug dependencies. Management doesn’t seem interested at all— as long as their check clears. THEY DO NOT GIVE A SH*T.

If you’re a woman, a POC, a single occupant or anyone who wants a somewhat peaceful experience, you’re just not going to get that here. It’s just too much. Pandemic or not, it’s honestly not worth it. You deserve so much better after what 2020 gave us. *heart emoji*
Advice to owner:
There isn’t enough time, space or energy for me to go in. I pray they don’t get some poor soul hurt.
