Review Summary for Jack Roitman
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews highlight buildings managed by Jack Roitman. Renters appreciate the safety, affordability, and proximity to amenities of the properties. However, there are concerns about slow owner responsiveness, inadequate communication, and maintenance issues recurring. Pest problems, gas shortages, and hot water issues have significantly impacted tenant satisfaction. Lack of timely repairs and cleanliness in common areas are recurring issues. While some tenants approve of the owner and recommend the buildings, others express dissatisfaction, particularly regarding pest control and landlord communication. Addressing these issues could enhance overall living experiences in these buildings.

Good building, lack of communication
Former Tenant
Pros:
Rent was inexpensive and felt very safe
Cons:
The landlord did inform tenants when the building was sold and leases were not being renewed
Advice to owner:
More communication

Overall nice building and apt
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice pre-war building. Overall good experience living here.
Cons:
Owner was very slow to respond to maintenance issues. When the super would come, often the repair would not fully address the issue and the same problem would resurface weeks later.

Bad maintenance and landlord
Former Tenant
Pros:
It has high ceilings. And close to Central Park and train.
Cons:
I lived here for 2 years, and didn’t have gas or hot water for 4 months at one point in the second year. The landlord said on the phone that he would give me relief from the rent but ended up only giving me $200 off per month in an apartment that I literally couldn’t live in. And dont bother asking the super to fix anything. Just awful.

Critters galore
Former Tenant
Pros:
“Cheap” for the neighborhood rent (but you get what you pay for)
Cons:
Mice, mice and more mice. The occasional cockroach, too. Both super and landlord were difficult to reach and slow to act. When I had a plumbing emergency and asked the super when he could come to the apartment, his exact words were “maybe today, maybe tomorrow.” He came the next day. Another time, both my toilet and shower malfunctioned two days before Christmas while the super was on vacation. The landlord wouldn’t send an emergency plumber, so I had to wait four days for the super to return. Meanwhile, I had to find another place to stay because I need a working toilet and shower.
Also, the person who lives below me smokes pot, which I can smell in my apartment. The person who lives above me blares their music. I, in turn, blare my TV so I can hear it over the music.
And the hallways are never swept anymore. Haven’t seen anyone clean the common areas since the pandemic began.
Advice to owner:
Deal with the mice infestation, please. It is NOT normal, even for NYC.
