Surviving Chaos in a Noisy Neighborhood
Former Tenant
Pros:
There is an elevator, but it's slow, and going down the stairs is faster.
Cons:
Living in this neighborhood was tough, really tough. It wasn't just about dealing with a bit of inconvenience here and there—it was like fighting a battle every single day. Picture this: you come home exhausted after a long day, hoping for some peace and quiet, but instead, you're greeted with blasting Latino music from the neighbors across. It's like there's no consideration for anyone else's need for peace and quiet.

And the streets? They were a mess. Everywhere you looked, trashy homeless people with trash piling up, making it feel more like a dump than a place where people lived. It's not just unsightly, all you need is to walk to the homeless eatery on the corner of 109 and 5th.

Even inside the building, there was no escape from the chaos. The noise from other apartments was relentless, like a constant assault on your senses. And don't get me started on the lack of courtesy from some of the residents. It's like they've forgotten how to be decent human beings, with loud music and radio during the day and parties late into the night and no regard for anyone else's space.

Living there felt like being constantly on edge, like you never knew when the next disruption would come. It wasn't just inconvenient. It was downright exhausting. And it made it really hard to find any sense of peace in what should have been your sanctuary.
Advice to owner:
Employee more people to maintain this place. It reeks CHEAP.

I Left and Didn’t Look Back
Former Tenant
Pros:
This building is very central and a quick walk from trains and buses, as well as shopping.
Cons:
When I lived there, there was rarely heat and hot water. I froze in the winter. The neighbors are also really loud, talk loudly, and blast music all night. The block is loud with questionable activity.
Advice to owner:
Actually invest in your property.

Money-Hungry & Neglectful Landlord
Former Tenant
Pros:
The only thing I enjoyed about this building when I lived there is how close transportation was around you. You have the 2&3 trains, the 6 train that has close transfer stops for the 4&5 trains. You have so many buses as well.
Cons:
There’s so much criminal activity in this area. Shootings, stabbings, fights, DRUG USE. Also, the Super never picks up the phone, the landlord only cared about rent being paid and never about all the repair requests and complaints being handed to them. ALSO, this building has roaches and bedbugs galore! BEWARE
Advice to owner:
Do better, for the amount you charge in rent this place should be a hundred times better.

One of Worse buildings
Former Tenant
Pros:
To be honest, the only pro I can think of is that the elevator actually works.
Cons:
Where do i even begin?!
during the winter time the heat is horrible its never on where you can see your breath (that's how cold it gets), the building is always dirty, front door is always broken and if fixed its temporary for a week then back to broken, always people loitering on the steps and lobby, nothing gets fixed on time or at all, my windows have been messed up for more than five years! A prime reason why in the winter all of the outside air always seeps through the window especially if its windy!

Why are we paying rent?
Former Tenant
Pros:
Only thing I like is that we live in the city so it’s convenient to get around. Also thankful I do have a place to live but come on these living conditions is POOR.
Cons:
The rats is getting out of control. It’s said there’s been bombs of poison killing them but it’s still a lot of them around that we have to walk in the middle of the street to avoid them. You’ll even see dead rats flattened on the road.

The water pressure comes and goes. Literally last night it was fine then towards the end of my shower it was getting weak. Plus some days I have to boil water or even other times it’s no water. Idk how many times they’ve repaired the pipes and boiler. I’ve lost count.

They have fixed the garbage situation, but they places the bins of trash and recycling deeper into the hallway into the basement and people aren’t comfortable walking down there into the rats den. I don’t blame them so as a result people just leave their trash at the top of the hallway and if piles up again leading to rats scavenging through that.

The super does the bare minimum. I’ve recently been putting papers up expressing my disgust and frustration of the building and he’s gone to every single one 3 days in a row taking them down. Keep in mind I’ve gone to all 5 floors on both wings and he has too to remove them.

Something so harmless, attached to the wall with tape he said is illegal and unproductive. If he has the time to go to every floor and remove them he has time to mop and sweep as well. There’s been other people cleaning that isn’t the super and they clean every other day maybe even 3-5 days without cleaning sometimes. What good is help if they not doing their part as well?

Not too long ago my mothers bedroom light stopped working, she told the super about it and it’s been almost 3 weeks since he’s done something about it. Let me not forget to mention MOLD growing in my closest for over a year now, that HE KNOWS about too. He said he could paint and put plaster on it but the real problem is the roof and the exterior of the building. Until that gets fixed it’ll just keep coming back.

If he knows about these problems, he has the power too to tell his employer about the problems and help his tenets. But i guess he hasn’t done so or the landlord gives 2 s***s about us so please tell me…. Who is the real unproductive one? Who is the one allowing this to happen?
Advice to owner:
How can you live with yourself knowing not only my apartment (4C) but many others as well face similar problems that have been ongoing for weeks, months EVEN YEARS???? I recently called the landlord, sent complaints to 311 and again let the super know about what’s going on. If these problems continue with no resolve or efficient solution…. Don’t be surprised if you have a lawsuit on your hands. **** you have the day you deserve.

RATS RATS building is Dirty neighbors are loud !
Former Tenant
Pros:
None it’s dirty and falling apart. The súper is a pervert and doesn’t know how to do anything.
Cons:
Outside and basement area has a huge rat infestation. The building doesn’t get cleaned repairs take a long time to get fixed and when they do it’s not a great job. The neighbors play loud music all the time no matter what day and time.
Advice to owner:
Get a better súper get him an assistant and start repairing apartments of the tenants who have been here long and pay rent on time.

Former Tenant
Pros:
Accessible and efficient management, good neighbors, building well maintained. The super is very responsive and kind.
