Small but clean
Pros
For years we've had excellent supers here who respond quickly to repair requests and keep the building tidy. In NYC, having a clean, stable place to stay when low income is a rarity. Huge plus! The interior of this old building was gutted decades ago, completely renovated. The exterior is currently undergoing a facade repair to restore the outside. Neighbors generally keep to themselves or are courteous.
Cons
Like many buildings in the area, it's a walkup, so it might not be for everyone if you have trouble climbing stairs. Though the building is generally safe, there have been issues with people shaking and breaking the doors; thankfully there are two doors, and they are repaired quickly. Though overall the building is quiet, there are times where neighbors are noisy. A sign has been placed in the hall asking neighbors not to loiter outside the building, and not to blast music in their apartments (particularly an issue with some leaving their door open). The sensor to determine the outside temperature is either not working well or may be in a bad position- heat can be on during heat season even when the external temperature is 70 degrees, making apartments very hot in spring and fall. Reaching the property manager can be a challenge at times.
Advice to the owners
We shouldn't need air conditioning in spring to compensate for an overactive heat system; this should be the next project to work on.
