Review Summary for 227 East 89 Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews of 227 East 89 Street highlight a generally clean and well-maintained building with a quiet environment and convenient location near subway lines and grocery stores. Residents appreciate responsive supers and some aspects of landlord communication, though feedback about management is mixed, with several tenants citing slow or selective responses and urging improvements in communication and maintenance follow-up. Pest control and occasional package theft remain concerns, while heating and water pressure are mostly satisfactory. Neighbor relations are decent but noise through walls and occasional disturbances are noted. Overall, the building appeals to those valuing location and upkeep but calls for more attentive and proactive management.

Overpriced apartment, frequent maintenance issues, non-responsive management
Former Tenant
Pros:
The neighbors were alright
Cons:
Management--specifically Alex Abreu--often completely ignored maintenance requests and required constant emails to get him to respond to simple requests. He would say he'd follow up on maintenance issues, only to ignore them.
Advice to owner:
Fire your management team and get people who actually care about maintaining habitable apartments for your tenants.

It’s decent, good location
Former Tenant
Pros:
Not too much noise. Good location. In unit laundry, modern kitchen.
Cons:
Landlord selective at responding, often ignores messages. Package theft occurs. Not cleaned thoroughly prior to move in.
Advice to owner:
Respond politely and timely to messages regarding maintenance. Improve app so that we know the status of our requests instead of making tenant have to constantly follow up. There should be someone monitoring this and making sure every tenant gets a response and resolution.
